Former Secretary of State John Kerry was mocked on social media for resurfaced comments in which he dismissed Middle East peace possibilities as impossible.
In the wake of what President Donald Trump called the “dawn of a new Middle East” as he helped usher in new peace deals and was nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize, the clip of Kerry’s pessimistic comments in 2016 sparked a wave of ridicule.
The video clip popped up on social media one day after Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan, and Bahrain Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalif as they signed the historic Abraham Accords.
The agreement, signed at the White House, saw the leaders promise to “to take the necessary steps to prevent any terrorist or hostile activities against each other on or from their respective territories, as well as deny any support for such activities abroad or allowing such support on or from their respective territories.”
On Wednesday, Twitter began circulating the video of Kerry’s 2016 comments which, according to Tablet magazine associate editor Noam Blum “aged like milk in a sauna.”

“There will be no separate peace between Israel and the Arab world,” Kerry said at the time.
“I want to make that very clear with all of you. I’ve heard several prominent politicians in Israel sometimes saying, ‘Well, the Arab world is in a different place now. We just have to reach out to them. We can work some things with the Arab world and we’ll deal with the Palestinians.’ No. No, no, and no,” he declared.
“I can tell you that, reaffirmed within the last week because I’ve talked to the leaders of the Arab community, there will be no advanced and separate peace with the Arab world without the Palestinian process and Palestinian peace. Everybody needs to understand that. That is a hard reality,” Kerry announced.
The mainstraem media downplayed and in some cases just ignored the magnitude of Trump’s accomplishments in recent days but there was really no way around Kerry’s own smug assessments. President Obama’s former secretary of state has been criticized for secretly meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif several times since leaving office.
Of course, Trump’s critics have repeatedly been tripped up by the president’s bold decisions, such as moving the American Embassy to the Israeli capital of Jerusalem and taking out Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. He has, once again, proven that he is a powerful negotiator.

“Man… Has anyone been more abjectly wrong about something?” National Review contributor Pradheep Shanker tweeted in reaction to the Kerry clip.
“Exactly backwards. Remarkable,” Hudson Institute senior fellow Rebeccah Heinrich tweeted.
“John Kerry may have been the worst Secretary of State ever, which says a lot,” Townhall editor Katie Pavlich wrote.
Australian columnist Rita Panahi called out the “Weapon grade cluelessnes,” adding that it’s “Hard to believe this milquetoast was Secretary of State.”
“This is like watching a very self-assured iguana attempting to translate Latin,” Ben Shapiro quipped.
“The only thing more amazing than this clip of John Kerry is that the Democrats are currently running on putting all the same people from this clueless administration back into the WH,” Washington Free Beacon executive editor Brent Scher wrote.
