Joe Biden’s political record is under fire in a “comprehensive examination” provided to Catholic voters warning that he is “hostile” to the faith.
The Democratic presidential nominee and his more than four decades in public office were examined in a 93-page review produced by the conservative CatholicVote organization, which is also targeting Catholic voters in swing states with a $9.7 million campaign against Biden.
The Catholic advocacy group, described on its website as a “layperson-led effort” that is independent from Catholic Bishops, released video advertisements and presented a scathing “Biden Report for Catholic Voters,” which addressed relevant topics and issues on the Democrat’s political career “from a Catholic perspective.”
“Today Joe Biden is running for president as a prominent U.S. Catholic with regular references to his faith and Catholic upbringing, citations of popes, and purported embrace of Catholic moral values,” the report stated, going on to note how Biden, who would become the second Catholic president in U.S. history if elected, has shown himself to be “hostile” to the faith on eight major issues.
The former vice president sent his own children to private school, the report noted on the topic of education, adding that Biden has “opposed school choice as vice president and as a presidential candidate, in opposition to the policy goals of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and a direct violation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.”
Biden has also shifted further to the left in his views on life and abortion, according to the report which said he “now represents the most pro-abortion presidential nominee in American history.”
“Today, as a presidential candidate, Biden says he would permanently codify Roe v. Wade into law,” the report continued, pointing out how he pledged to repeal the Hyde Amendment banning the federal government from funding abortions, though he later backtracked after backlash.
The important issue of religious freedom was also addressed, pointing to Biden’s efforts to “prohibit faith-based foster care and adoption agencies from receiving federal funds” and has opposed “protections for religious institutions to qualify for federal contracts.”
“Catholics for Biden” Co-Chair, Senator @timkaine, voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which protects children born alive following an abortion or attempted abortion from being slaughtered on the delivery table.
Absolutely grotesque and shameful.

“We stand with our Catholic bishops in making clear that no person has a right to judge a person’s soul, or relationship with God,” CatholicVote president Brian Burch told Catholic News Agency Tuesday. “Instead we are fulfilling our obligation as Catholic laypersons in defending the time-honored truths of our Faith, publicly and repeatedly cast aside by Mr. Biden over the past 47 years.”
The grassroots lobbying organization also took aim at Biden in a video ad and a $350,000 digital ad campaign in Pennsylvania and Michigan, coinciding with the Biden campaign announcement of 36 national co-chairs of Catholics for Biden.
“Joe Biden would force American Catholics to pay for abortions, sacrificing his Catholic values to kneel before the leftist mob,” the narrator in the video ad said.

“Joe Biden’s record makes clear he will not protect our Catholic values or defend our way of life,” Burch said in a statement. “For Catholics who cherish the Faith and their freedom to live it, a Biden presidency represents an existential threat.”
The Catholic News Agency took aim at Biden last month in a critical article unpacking how many of the Democratic policy stands he will campaign on run counter to Catholic teaching. Tackling issues like religious freedom, abortion, LGBTQ advocacy, same-sex marriage and school choice, the report contrasted the Biden platform with beliefs held by Catholics.
Biden’s choice of Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate has also sparked criticism from Catholic groups, as the National Catholic Register warned last month that her “aggressive pro-abortion and anti-religious freedom record” could negatively impact the Democrat ticket and may “spell trouble for his efforts to appeal to religious voters.”
“Kamala Harris has come to be a ringleader of the anti-Catholic bullying that increasingly defines the Democratic Party,” Ashley McGuire, senior fellow with the Catholic Association, told the Register. “It is equally disappointing to see Joe Biden tout his Catholic faith while picking as his running mate someone who has made her anti-Catholic bona fides clear.”
In a blog post last month, former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich called Harris the “most openly anti-Catholic bigot to be on a national ticket in modern times.”
“So, this bigot is the person Vice President Biden thinks should be next in line to be president,” he wrote. “This says a lot about the strength of his own Catholic background under the pressure of the atheist and anti-religious left.”
