During a conference call this week with local school officials, Los Angeles County public health director Barbara Ferrer announced that no school in the Democrat-controlled county will be allowed to reopen until sometime after the November election.

“We don’t realistically anticipate that we would be moving either to Tier 2 [of California’s reopening plan] or to reopening K-12 schools at least until after the election,” she said, according to a now-viral audio recording from the conference.

“It seems to us the more realistic approach to this would be to think that we’re gonna be where we are now until we are done with the election.”

Listen via Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle“:

The clip quickly went viral, provoking mass outrage and accusations that officials like Ferrer, who already went viral last May for looking so stunningly unhealthy, have politicized the coronavirus to score points against President Donald Trump.

Look:

To answer the latter user’s question, not a single mainstream outlet outside of Fox News had reported on this story as of Friday morning.

After the backlash erupted, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health tried to walk back or “clarify” Ferrer’s remark.

A spokesperson told local station KCBS that her remark “was related only to timing any expanded school re-openings to allow for enough time from the implementation of changes to assess impact prior to expansions.”

“DPH will be working closely with schools providing services and supports to high need students over the next 6-8 weeks to implement and assess safety directives and strategies for ensuring infection control and distancing. This information will be used to inform the timing of future activities at schools.”

But the same question remains: What does any of this have to do with the election? According to critics, the answer likewise remains the same.

Look:

This controversy comes as pressure is building against Democrat-controlled cities and states that refuse to pull back their draconian coronavirus restrictions, despite clear-cut evidence showing that the coronavirus has greatly weakened.

In some cases, Democrats like presidential nominee Joe Biden have outright lied about the severity of the pandemic:

In other cases, Democrats have foisted draconian coronavirus restrictions on their constituents while personally not following the restrictions themselves:

These lies and double standards have exacerbated the feeling among some in the public that these restrictions aren’t based on science but rather on politics. And well, Ferrer’s remarks were basically equivalent to pouring gasoline on an already raging wildfire.
