A staffer with the American Civil Liberties Union slammed Transylvania University for admitting Nicholas Sandmann, the teenager who was defamed as a racist by CNN and other left-wing press outlets for wearing a MAGA hat during a peaceful standoff with a Native-American activist.
Sandmann has since sued CNN and the Washington Post into submission for smearing his reputation in a series of bombshell $250 million defamation lawsuits.
This weekend, ACLU staffer Samuel Crankshaw tried to bully Kentucky’s Transylvania University for accepting Sandmann as a student, saying that’s a “stain” on the school.
Crankshaw wrote in a since-deleted Facebook post: “Does anyone else think it’s a bit of a stain on Transylvania University for accepting Nick Sandmann? I’m sure it’s a “both sides” defense, but it’s pretty counter to their mission and another instance of there not actually being equal sides to an issue.”
He continued: “This kid clearly is a provocateur in training with no intention of learning. He exists only to troll, intimidate and play victim.”
Crankshaw has since deleted his inflammatory comments, which were spotlighted by Georgetown Law professor Jonathan Turley, a self-described liberal.
Adding to the mob bullying of Nick Sandmann — who’s still a teenager at 18 — an assistant professor at Transylvania University attacked Sandmann’s character by saying he’s “uninformed” and “anti-intellectualist.”

Tompkins commented on Samuel Crankshaw’s Facebook post that Sandmann — whom he has never met — holds “anti-intellectualist views.”
Tompkins also expressed concern that Sandmann would be a disruptive student and promised to profile Sandmann and report him to the school.
Tompkins wrote: “If he were to cause problems by being disruptive, trolling, or engaging in unethical behavior of any kind, I would immediately document it…and he would just be putting himself in a position for me to file a conduct report.”
After fueling backlash for smearing a student he has never met, Avery Tompkins apologized.
Tompkins wrote: “I want to apologize for my mistake in singling out a student and any misunderstandings that arose from that. One of my favorite things about working at a liberal arts institution is that our community has diverse perspectives. All students, faculty and staff are able to engage in civil discourse with those whose views may be different from their own, and to learn about those views in an academic setting. I value and support these conversations with students, and I know that students value these conversations with their peers as well.”
Nick Sandmann became famous overnight in 2019 after the mainstream media defamed him with the false narrative that he ― who was then a junior at Covington Catholic High School ―had harassed and made racist slurs at left-wing Native-American activist Nathan Phillips.
That was a lie. The false narrative was promoted using doctored, edited videotape with the audio silenced.
Sandmann got his revenge after barraging CNN, the Washington Post and other media with a series of $250 million defamation lawsuits. Many of them have since been settled — to Sandmann’s satisfaction.
Sandmann has since been cited as an example of the media’s overt bias against Trump supporters. He has also been celebrated as a hero for teaching the left-wing media complex that its defamation of conservatives will not go unpunished.
Fox News host Sean Hannity joked to Donald Trump Jr: “I wouldn’t put up with that [defamation] and neither would you. The kid did it right. He’s going to be a billionaire [thanks to the lying media]! He might be richer than your dad at the end of this.”
