Jacob Blake, who was paralyzed from the waist down after being shot several times by a Kenosha police officer last month, said in a video from his hospital bed that he is in constant pain as he advised other blacks not to waste their lives.

“I just want to say, man – a lot of young cats out there and even the older ones, older than me, it’s a lot more life to live out here, man,” Blake, 29, says in the video which was released by his lawyer, Benjamin Crump, on Saturday.

“Your life, and not only just your life, your legs, something you need to move around and forward in life, can be taken from you like this, man,” he said as he snapped his fingers.

“And I promise you the type of s**t you go through, staples, I got staples in my back, staples in my damn stomach, you do not want to deal with this s**t, man. Twenty-four hours, every twenty-four hours it’s pain, nothing but pain,” he added.

“It hurts to breathe, it hurts to sleep, it hurts to move from side-to-side, it hurts to eat,” Blake continued. “Please, I’m telling you, change your lives. Stick together, make some money, make everything easier for our people out there, man, because there’s so much time that’s been wasted.”

An initial video of the incident that went viral showed Blake being shot seven times in the back after walking around the front of an SUV he was driving, opening the driver’s door and reaching inside.

But a subsequent video unearthed by the Daily Mail a few days later appears to show Blake — who was wanted on charges of criminal trespass, sexual assault, and disorderly conduct — wrestling with at least two officers on the ground after reportedly being tased moments before he was shot.

As has happened since the May death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis, Blake’s incident sparked widespread protests that were marred by riots, destruction, and looting.

Violence began within hours of the Aug. 23 incident and continued for the next several days, with businesses being burned to the ground, shops being looted, and public property destroyed.

Two days after Blake was shot, a pair of rioters were killed during two separate shootings and a third man was wounded. Kyle Rittenhouse, 17, was arrested and charged with murder, though his lawyers claim he acted in self-defense. Video of the shootings may support those claims.

During an investigation into the shooting by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Blake told investigators that he had a knife in his vehicle, which appears to justify the officer’s action.

In a statement, the department said that investigators had recovered a knife on the floorboard of the vehicle Blake was driving.

“During the investigation following the initial incident, Mr. Blake admitted that he had a knife in his possession,” The Wisconsin DoJ said.

In a recent video, Mike Brown of the Chicago-based Security Training Concepts explained why police officers are trained to react quickly with lethal force, even if a suspect has their back to them.

“It could be you as a citizen, and you walked up, and you see somebody in your house, and you’re behind, so you don’t see their hands. How fast do you think it would take for me to just go on ahead and simply shoot?” Brown says in the video, before quickly drawing a handgun and firing at a target.
