Harris: Trump and Barr are in ‘different reality’ to deny systemic racism amid nationwide protests

According to Democrat vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris, President Donald Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr reside in a “different reality” as it pertains to the myth of so-called systemic racism in America’s criminal justice system.

Speaking on CNN this Sunday, the VP candidate claimed America has “two systems of justice in America” — one for whites, and another for racial minorities.

Contrasting her belief in so-called systemic racism to Trump and Barr’s denial that it exists, she added that the two “are spending full time in a different reality.”

“I don’t think that most reasonable people who are paying attention to the facts would dispute that there are racial disparities and a system that has engaged in racism in terms of how the laws have been enforced,” she said.

“It does us no good to deny that. Let’s just deal with it. Let’s be honest. These might be difficult conversations for some, but they’re not difficult conversations for leaders, not for real leaders.”

Listen:

Her belief is based on disparate impact, a baseless, unsubstantiated theory that attributes disparities/disproportions to discrimination and racism.

For instance, if more blacks in a particular community died of heart disease than their white peers, someone who believes in disparate impact would automatically assume their deaths were the result of racism and not take into consideration other factors such as genetics, diet, habits, vices, etc.

Similarly, because a disproportionate number of blacks are incarcerated in the prison system and killed by the police, believers of this theory automatically assume that racism and discrimination are somehow to blame, never mind additional facts.

A perfect example of this played out in Georgia three months ago, when a black suspect who’d been caught sleeping in his car while parked at a Wendy’s drive-through resisted arrest, stole a taser from one of the officers and then fired it at the officers.

During the ensuing melee, that black suspect, Rayshard Brooks, wound up being fatally shot by the police. Immediately afterward, the racial grievance mongers who believe in disparate impact cried foul, whereas those who preferred to view the encounter objectively noted that Brooks’ own behavior had contributed to his downfall.

The surveillance footage below shows the moment that Brooks turned around and pointed the taser at the officers pursuing him.

Now guess who chose to join the racial grievance mongers …

Look:

Trump and Barr view the world differently. In a CNN interview last Wednesday, Barr outright dismissed the idea of “two justice systems.”

“I don’t think they’re two justice systems. Let’s — you know, I think the narrative that there’s — that the police are on some, you know, epidemic of shooting unarmed black men is simply a false narrative and also the narrative that that’s based on race,” he said.

“The fact of the matter, it’s very rare for an unarmed African American to be shot by a white police officer. There were 10 cases last year, six of them, the suspect was attacking the police officer physically. So these are rare things compared to the seven to 8000 young black men who were killed every year.”

Listen:

Asked about the notion of system racism during a visit that same day to Kenosha, Wisconsin, the president seemed to wonder why the media were obsessed with fictional narratives instead of the tangible left-wing violence affecting cities like Portland.

“Well, you just keep getting back to the opposite subject. We should talk about the kind of violence that we’ve seen in Portland and here and other places, it’s tremendous violence,” he said.

“You always get to the other side, well, what do you think about this or that? The fact is that we’ve seen tremendous violence and we will put it out very, very quickly if given the chance, and that’s what this is all about.”

Listen:

Violent riots by left-wing extremists have erupted multiple times across the country this summer because of the deaths or fatal/non-fatal shootings of black criminal suspects by the police. The assumption again is that every death or non-fatal shooting is attributable to racism, never mind the circumstances that led to those particular deaths.

In George Floyd’s case, it appears he’d been resisting arrest while high on fentanyl. In Brooks’s case, it’s obvious he’d attacked the police. In Jacob Blake’s case, it’s obvious he’d disobeyed orders, turned his back to the authorities and then reached into his car.

But to those like Harris who believe in disparate impact, the extenuating circumstances tied to each case simply don’t matter. In their irrational, illiberal “reality,” race comes foremost, even when the evidence shows it has nothing to do with anything.
