Democrat John DeBerry Jr., a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, blasted the riots, looting, and property destruction by Black Lives Matter Marxists, saying violence and anarchy are not the hallmarks of a legitimate civil-rights movement.

DeBerry’s family has a distinguished history with the civil rights movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who championed non-violent activism.

DeBerry said BLM rioters who are invoking Dr. King’s name while looting and assaulting people are bastardizing what legitimate civil rights activists stood for.

“I’m appalled when folks want to call this stuff that’s happening now and compare it to the civil rights movement, when there is absolutely no comparison,” Rep. DeBerry said. “Peaceful protest ends peacefully. Anarchy ends in chaos.”

He continued: “Any of us with any common sense whatsoever know that what we are seeing right now is NOT peaceful. So we can continue to fool ourselves and use [false] rhetoric to frost this stuff over.”

DeBerry then slammed cowardly Democrats and Republicans alike who refuse to condemn the thuggery of Black Lives Matter rioters, saying bending the knee to these criminals makes us “a bunch of punks.”

DeBerry said: “People who are looking at what’s happening in Washington, in Detroit, in Portland and Seattle, and they’re getting emboldened because we act like a bunch of punks — too frightened to stand up and protect our own stuff.”

“You’re telling me that someone has the right to tear down property that Tennessee taxpayers paid for? That American taxpayers paid for? And somebody has the right to destroy it, deface it, and tear it down? What kind of people have we become that we can’t protect our own stuff?!”

Rep. DeBerry says BLM rioters and looters play into the worst stereotypes of the black community with their thuggery.

“It’s like we’re trying to live up to the worst of stereotypes, the worst of behavior, the worst of perceptions,” DeBerry said. “And it’s heartbreaking to think that folks think that burning and looting and stealing — that these things build camaraderie and a good opinion.”

DeBerry said the peaceful protesters of the Martin Luther King Jr. era were dignified. They talked the talk and walked the walk.

“They put on their shirts and their ties and their Sunday dresses. They looked the part,” DeBerry recalled. “I’m not saying there was a dress code. I’m saying that they were going to dispel any stereotype that might be thrown at them. They were going to be men and women of class and character.”

DeBerry continued: “The only reason I stood up is because there was a continual reference to Dr. King and to others of the era of the civil rights movement. I was there! This is different. Dr. King’s entire platform was nonviolent protest.”

He added: “We have crossed the line. Peaceful protests end peacefully. And if it doesn’t, then somebody should be held accountable — be that the policeman or the protesters. When you start destroying other folks’ property, you have gone beyond what you have a right to do.”

Civil rights pioneer Clarence Henderson, a Trump supporter, echoed Rep. John DeBerry Jr.’s sentiments.

“Black Lives Matter is not a civil rights movement. They are Marxists,” Henderson told Fox Business anchor Charles Payne. “Their intentions are to tear down the fabric of America.”
