Los Angeles Clippers coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers slammed Republicans for speaking about fear as he weighed in on social injustice and the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin.

Rivers declared in a post-game interview that “we’re the ones getting killed,” apparently acting as an unofficial spokesman for the black community as he blasted the focus on law and order during the Republican National Convention.

“It’s just so sad. What stands out to me is just watching the Republican convention, and viewing this fear. All you hear is Donald Trump and all of them talking about fear,” Rivers said, taking off his protective face mask as he spoke to reporters at NBA’s Disney World campus near Orlando, Fla. on Tuesday.

“We’re the ones getting killed. We’re the ones getting shot. We’re the ones that we’re denied to live in certain communities. We’ve been hung. We’ve been shot,” he said. “All you do is keep hearing about fear.”

“It’s amazing why we keep loving this country, and this country does not love us back,” the 58-year-old basketball coach and former player continued. “It’s really so sad. Like, I should just be a coach. I’m so often reminded of my color. It’s just really sad. We got to do better. But we got to demand better.”

Rivers demanded that police training needed to be changed and that police unions need “to be taken down” as he recalled his late father, who served for decades as a police officer in Chicago.

“It’s funny, we protest. They send riot guards. They send people in riot outfits. They go up to Michigan with guns. They’re spitting on cops. Nothing happens,” he said.

“The training has to change in the police force. The unions have to be taken down in the police force. My dad was a cop. I believe in good cops. We’re not trying to defund the police and take all their money away. We’re trying to get them to protect us, just like they protect everybody else. I didn’t want to talk about it before the game because it’s so hard, like, to just keep watching it,” he said after his team’s victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the series playoffs.

“That video, if you watch that video, you don’t need to be Black to be outraged. You need to be American and outraged,” he said, referring to the viral video of the incident on Sunday when Blake was shot and wounded by a Kenosha police officer.

While full details have not been released about what exactly transpired, video footage showing the black man whose sons were in the vehicle when he was shot in the back multiple times, sparked outrage and ignited nightly protests and rioting in the city.

“How dare the Republicans talk about fear. We’re the ones that need to be scared. We’re the ones having to talk to every black child,” Rivers continued telling reporters Tuesday.

“What white father has to give his son a talk about being careful if you get pulled over? It’s just ridiculous. It just keeps going. There’s no charges. Breonna Taylor, no charges, nothing,” he added. “All we’re asking is you live up to the Constitution. That’s all we’re asking for everybody, for everyone.”

Rivers found plenty of social media support from liberals who applauded his words. Boston Celtics center Bill Russell thanked Rivers “for your words of wisdom and keeping this at the forefront.”

But there were many others who noted that Rivers was painting with a broad brush and attempting to speak for an entire population.
