Comedian John Oliver is being honored by a Connecticut city that he mocked by having the sewage plant named after him.

Mayor Mark Boughton of Danbury, Conn. announced the dubious honor this weekend saying the British comedian is like the sewer facility because they are both “full of crap.” The Republican mayor posted a video on Facebook with the message after Oliver took a shot at the city on his HBO show last week.

Boughton took on Oliver’s “points of interest” about Danbury, noting that while he was right about several of those examples, his attack on the city deserved to be addressed. The mayor delivered his message wearing a safety vest and standing on location in front of the local sewer plant.

“We are going to rename it the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant,” he said.

“Why? Because it’s full of (bleep) just like you, John,” he added, with the word “crap” being bleeped out.

In an episode of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” that aired last week, the comedian had mentioned Danbury after talking about problems with the jury selection process and racial disparities in some Connecticut cities, naming Hartford and New Britain.

“Those two missing cities accounted for 63 percent of African Americans in the district, and 68% of the Hispanic population, which is horrible,” he said before noting Danbury.

“If you are going to forget a town in Connecticut, why not forget Danbury because — and this is true — f–k Danbury,” Oliver said.

He mentioned the city’s railway museum” and its “historic Hearthstone Castle” as examples of historic landmarks in the area, which Boughton said they “certainly agree.”

“Danbury Connecticut can eat my whole a—,” Oliver added.

“I know exactly three things about Danbury, USA Today ranked it the second-best city to live in in 2015, it was once the center of the American hat industry,” he added.

“And if you’re from there, you have a standing invite to come get a thrashing from John Oliver — children included — f–k you,” Oliver said.

The comedian had previously mocked the city in 2017 after officials had made a video trying to woo Amazon into locating there and bringing jobs to the area. Boughton alluded to Oliver’s mockery with a final jab in his video message.

“And, oh by the way, thanks for showing that Amazon video,” Boughton said. “We did get Amazon here in Danbury.”

On Sunday’s episode of “Last Week Tonight,” Oliver again unloaded in a profane rant against the town.

“I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: F— Danbury. Babies. Elderly. Pets. Buildings. All of you can go f— yourselves,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Oliver’s rant and the mayor’s announcement prompted plenty of reaction on Twitter.
