Media let DNC lies go unchallenged, but Associated Press called Michelle Obama ‘persistently distorted …misleading’

Historian Victor Davis Hanson slammed the mainstream media for failing to challenge claims made by speakers at the Democratic National Convention.

The Hoover Institution senior fellow spoke with Fox News host Tucker Carlson Tuesday on the second night of the Democrats’ virtual convention, calling out so-called journalists as “activists” who are part of the “progressive agenda movement” who refuse to hold Democrats accountable for their clams.

“What is the message that the Democratic Party is trying to sell to the country right now?” Carlson asked his guest on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Tuesday.

Hanson focused on “common themes” among Democrats who “say these things that aren’t true,” pointing to examples such as former first lady Michelle Obama “talking about black lives being indiscriminately almost daily killed on the street” and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo bragging about having the best record on dealing with the coronavirus pandemic despite the facts.

The comments go unchallenged “because there is no media as we used to know it,” Hanson said, contending that the mainstream media outlets have “fused with the progressive movement in general and with the Democratic Party in particular.”

“When he says this, he knows nobody’s going to challenge him, so it emboldens him,” Hanson said of Cuomo.

He went on to note the other common thread in the message Democrats put forth, pointing out that they are “never subject to the consequences of their ideology.”

“It’s easy for Bernie Sanders to say he’s for no bail, because he has three homes. People aren’t going to show up, criminals, hijack him when he walks out of his lakeside estate,” Hanson told Carlson.

“Michelle Obama knows that there were over 100 people killed in one month alone in her hometown in Chicago. They weren’t killed by white people. They weren’t killed by the police. There’s been over 400,” he said.

“She knows that. She knows, as you said, there were nine killed last year by the police and eight African-Americans perhaps this year. She knows what the real problem is but she also knows that she could go to Chicago with Barack, she doesn’t like politics, meet with community leaders and say we have a crisis in Chicago in general and among the African-American community,” Hanson continued.

“It would be a wonderful thing to do to stop what’s really an urban genocide. It’s very easy to say something from your Washington or Martha’s Vineyard estate — $20 million in estate and mansions — because you’re never going to be subject to the ramifications. Black Lives Matter’s not going to show up outside of her mansion and there’s not going to be an inner-city shooting match right outside Martha’s Vineyard,” he said.

“So these all become abstractions,” Hanson explained, as he pointed out how Michelle Obama can call on Democrats to take the high road despite the corruption in her husband’s administration.

“When she says ‘We go high when they go low,’ she’s talking right now when her husband’s administration has weaponized the IRS, the FBI, the DOJ, the CIA, and is the subject of a massive investigation by [Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham],” Hanson said.

The former first lady argued that “going high is the only thing that works” during her convention speech, in which she took direct aim at the Trump administration, prompting a stinging comeback by President Trump.

“It will probably end up, if things happen as many predict, as one of the most corrupt administrations that tried to destroy a political campaign, a president, transition, and a presidency,” Hanson told Carlson, “and she’s saying, ‘When they go low, we go high.'”

“She can say all of that because of the clips that you played,” Hanson added.

“Those clips you played were not from journalists. They were from activists that say they are journalists but they are really part of the progressive agenda movement,” he concluded.

Surprisingly, the Associated Press did push back on immigration claims made by Obama in her Monday night speech as she sought to accuse Trump and his administration of using “cages” for migrant children at the U.S. southern border.

Obama spewed her lies as she claimed Americans had to “watch in horror as children are torn from their families and thrown into cages,” blatantly failing to note her husband’s role in the using the same facilities.

“Michelle Obama assailed President Donald Trump on Monday for ripping migrant children from their parents and throwing them into cages, picking up on a frequent and distorted point made widely by Democrats,” the AP reported following her speech.

“She’s right that Trump’s now-suspended policy at the U.S.-Mexico border separated thousands of children from their families in ways that had not been done before,” the report continued. “But what she did not say is that the very same ‘cages’ were built and used in her husband’s administration, for the same purposes of holding migrant kids temporarily.”

Obama’s “reference to cages” was called out by the AP as “misleading” and a “persistently distorted” narrative that Democrats have continued to peddle.

“Trump used facilities that were built during the Obama-Biden administration to house children at the border. They are chain-link enclosures inside border facilities where migrants were temporarily housed, separated by sex and age,” the report stated, adding the damning point that many of the photos used to slam Trump were actually taken in 2014 during the Obama administration and “depicted some of the thousands of unaccompanied children held by President Barack Obama.”
