Store windows were smashed and graffiti spray-painted on buildings in New York City during what was being touted as a “peaceful protest” over the weekend.

A march to purportedly support the Stone Mountain protests in Georgia on Saturday escalated as dozens of demonstrators,  many believed to be members of Antifa, went on a destructive rampage across Brooklyn. The New York Police Department was reportedly investigating, searching for suspects responsible for trashing an Apple Store and other businesses, according to Fox 5 NY.

A police source noted that “officers observed a group of approximately 75 people believed to be part of the Antifa group,” according to the New York Post.

They tore through the Williamsburg neighborhood, vandalizing an Apple store and a Whole Foods supermarket while spray-painting “Murder Bezos” on one storefront, referring to the owner of Amazon which bought the grocery chain in 2017.

Video footage from the day of marching, in a city that is still under some sort of coronavirus restrictions, also showed the nighttime attack by thugs on the buildings, smashing storefront windows and painting phrases such as “FTP,” or “F–k the police.”

Vandalism was reported at the Apple Store on Bedford Avenue in a 911 call to police after 8 p.m. Video showed people in the store as others, many dressed mostly in black, hurled objects at the store and spray-painted.  Police are searching for a man and a woman, “both described as having a light complexion and last seen wearing dark-colored clothing,” according to Fox 5 NY.

Another call just before midnight led police to more shattered windows and graffiti, with a Compass Real Estate outlet also targeted and the words “Die Yuppy” were painted by one vandal, according to the New York Post.

“I feel sentiment for the times, but this stuff is just senseless,” a Compass employee told the newspaper on Monday. “They don’t even know what they’re doing. It’s just destruction for destruction’s sake.”

“The irony of it is you can clearly tell that everyone on the video is white,” he said. “And it’s like, do you guys even know what you’re doing this for?”

Video footage captured and posted by FreedomNewsTV showed a Whole Foods employee coming out at one point to confront some of the would-be vandals.

The marches, protests and eventual vandalism took place even as New York City has not fully reopened following the COVID-19 lockdowns. Indoor dining in restaurants is still not allowed while fitness centers, churches and more remain closed. Despite this, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced back in June that MTV’s Video Music Awards ceremony would likely be allowed to take place — sans a live audience — at the end of this month at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Twitter users slammed the Democratic leadership in New York as they called out the so-called protesters who caused the damage in the Brooklyn neighborhood.
