Former Obama White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel tried but failed epically this week to convince Republican voters to ditch the GOP and become so-called “Biden Republicans” for the upcoming 2020 presidential election.
Emanuel, who went on to serve as the mayor of Chicago from 2011 to 2019 after he left the Obama administration in 2010, tried to achieve this feat by penning an op-ed for one of America’s most conservative newspapers, The Wall Street Journal.
Take a look at the piece’s headline below:
He really thought he could convince Republicans to ditch the GOP …
In the roughly 750-word piece, the longtime Democrat claimed his party has “an opportunity to chisel off a demographic that will come to be known as “Biden Republicans.”
This opportunity exists, he argued, because “more voters are seeking candidates who embody diversity, openness and compassion,” and these voters are fed-up with the Republican Party’s “Louie Gohmert-style responses to the pandemic and stupefying denials of climate change.”
What they apparently want, he continued, is the radicalism of Black Lives Matter …
“The Black Lives Matter signs in windows across suburban the U.S. reveal what so many Americans think of Mr. Trump’s divisiveness. Set the underlying merits aside—these issues reveal a cultural shift that cuts against the Republican Party. Culture now works in the Democratic Party’s favor,” he wrote.
If he says so …
To prove that a 180 is possible, he cited what happened in 1980, when “Reagan Democrats” hopped over to the GOP because of the charisma of former President Ronald Reagan.
“In 1980, President Reagan turned what could have been a transactional arrangement with Reagan Democrats into a transformational moment,” his piece concluded.
“Joe Biden and the Democrats are now poised to do something similar. If in 2028 the Democratic nominee sees Biden Republicans as part of the Democratic Party’s base, we will have made the most of this year’s electoral opportunity.”
Did Emanuel’s piece actually convince anybody? Not from the looks of it.
Below is the top-voted comment below his piece:
Emanuel ran Chicago into the ground.
The comments on Twitter are even more caustic, with critics pointing out that any ostensible Republican who chooses to vote for presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden and his radical agenda is no real Republican.
Look:
Any republicans who find a home with today’s Dem party are NOT republicans. Not even close!

Good, let them go. They were never republicans anyway just self serving nihilists.

If they are for biden then it goes with out saying they are not republicans

Critics have some choice words for Emanuel as well.
Look:
Going to flee to leftists, says the man who couldn’t manage Chicago.

We saw how well Rahm ran Chicago. We see how in tune he is with average Joe.

“Rahm Emanuel” 😂😂😂😂😂

Emanuel couldn’t even hold down a job in the community organizer’s administration so he went off and teed up the further destruction of Chicago for Mayor Leftfoot!

I do not see how a moderate Democrat can stay nor is even welcome in the current Democrat Party. Now Rahmbo is saying Republicans are welcome. What planet do these people live on. People are fleeing your state!

If Rahm Emanuel thinks that the Democrats can unseat Trump with disaffected Republicans like Reagan did with Democrats in 1980 they better find a new candidate because Biden ain’t the guy. I think Rahm forgets that Trump already won with disaffected Democrats.

The evidence suggests that if anybody’s slated to flee, it’s disaffected Democrats exasperated over the Democrat Party’s embrace of the fringe left.
Disaffected Democrats like Keri Smith, a lifelong liberal and former “social justice warrior” who’s grown fed-up with the Democrat Party’s “Marxism and authoritarianism.”
“I am a liberal who is voting for Trump because I am deeply worried about the state of our country and about the erosion of cultural values like free speech, equality, the non-aggression principle, reason, logic, objectivity and individualism,” she wrote last week for Medium.
“I am a liberal who is voting for Donald Trump because I OPPOSE racism and sexism, and I see that my old party, the Democratic party, has been entirely eaten up with cancerous racist and sexist beliefs. A mind-virus that threatens to make monsters of men and to end civilization as we know it.”
“I am a liberal who is voting for Trump, because despite the names I will be called, and the friends I have lost and will lose, I believe he is the person running who has demonstrated the most commitment to ending war, the most commitment to individualism and equality, the most commitment to free speech.”
Hello, my name is Keri and I’m a liberal who is voting for @realDonaldTrump
I don’t care what you call me, what incorrect things you want to think of me, if you want to “unfriend” me. I’ve spent 4 years building up a tolerance to your crap. I do not care. https://t.co/aKnBpCFraP

Smith is what one might call a “Trump Democrat,” and it turns out that there are a whole lot of Democrats just like her.
As for those “Biden Republicans,” there’s always Bill Kristol and Rick Wilson …
