A Michigan man was arrested after a brutal attack on an elderly Alzheimer’s patient in a nursing home.
The 69-year-old resident in a West Bloomfield nursing home was allegedly attacked by a male orderly who also stole her wedding ring from her finger. But while Tirrell Mercer, Jr. was arrested and charged with armed robbery and elder abuse, the nursing home had initially told the patient’s husband that his wife had been injured in a fall, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

The attack happened just days after Kristine Tracy was moved into the facility in July when Stan, her husband of nearly 50 years, was no longer able to care for her and her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Soon after Tracy arrived at the Villa at Green Lake Estates, she was allegedly brutally assaulted by the employee who also stole her wedding ring, according to video footage obtained by police.
But the facility initially told Stan that his wife’s injuries had been due to a fall.
“They don’t let them fall on their *** or on their head. They don’t do that,” Stan asserted.
“When you run an organization like that and you abuse people that come out bruised, you are not doing any standard of care,” he added.
Greg Rohl, the attorney suing Villa at Green Lake Estates, was equally disgusted.
“What goes through someone’s mind to take advantage of an Alzheimer’s victim, 67 years old, tear off a ring that’s been on her finger since 1971,” he said.
So far, there was no indication that the ring had been found or returned and the news station reported that the facility would not return their phone calls.
“I would’ve liked to have given it to my granddaughter; I’d have liked to have worn it on a chain. I would just like to have it,” Stan said.
“It’s the longest memory the two of us have. She never took it off,” he added. “Honestly, I would’ve liked to have gone in there and grabbed people by the throat and shaken them.”
Mercer has been charged with armed robbery, a felony, and elder abuse, a misdemeanor.
Unfortunately, the horrific attack is just the latest in reports of helpless nursing home residents being abused and assaulted.
In Florida last week, 19-year-old Jonah Delgado was accused of beating an 88-year-old man who was in his care, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The nursing student, hired by the victim’s son to care for him, was arrested after home video footage showed his disgusting assault as he punched, pushed and verbally attacked the elderly man who required full-time care for his basic needs.
The latest attack in Michigan is also one of several incidents in the state’s elder facilities where the vulnerable residents have been among the population under scrutiny due to coronavirus concerns which have also meant that visits by family have been restricted due to lockdowns.
In May, a U.S. Military veteran was viciously beaten by 20-year-old Jaden T. Hayden, who recorded himself beating the man and another woman at the Detroit nursing home. The elderly man died last month after he had reportedly been depressed and was not eating properly.

Earlier this year in Warren, Michigan, surveillance video from a nursing home showed then-employee Ronald Fletcher abusing a 91-year-old resident.
The latest attack on Tracy sparked anger on social media where many pointed out how the liberal media remains silent on the reports as they do not fit the narrative.
