Georgia state legislator Vernon Jones is “tired of the bigotry” and vented about his recent MSNBC appearance in which he was accused of being a “sell-out.”
The Democrat and member of the “Black Voices for Trump” advisory board shared a video message Wednesday following a heated interview earlier that day with MSNBC commentator Craig Melvin. Jones was questioned about “being compensated” for his support of Trump, which set off a fiery exchange in which the lawmaker noted he was only being asked “because I don’t fit your narrative.”
I went on MSNBC and they accused me of being a sell-out.
The Left is so racist that they think the only way a black man will think for himself is he’s paid? I’m tired of the bigotry. @realDonaldTrump – I’ve got your back! pic.twitter.com/MbftgawuLV

“I went on MSNBC and they accused me of being a sell-out,” Jones captioned a post he later shared on Twitter.
“The Left is so racist that they think the only way a black man will think for himself is he’s paid? I’m tired of the bigotry,” he added, tagging the president with the message: “I’ve got your back!”
In a video he shot on his front porch after a “long day,” Jones said he “just had to say something about my day today” after speaking with Melvin, a “nice guy” who “asked me something that just blew me away.”
“He asked me, are you being paid by Donald Trump? Being paid by Donald Trump? For what?” Jones asked. “Because I support him?”
Jones asserted that he has “not received a dollar on anything from Donald Trump or his campaign or anybody related to his campaign.”
“These are my own individual thoughts, but that’s the bigotry in the liberal media and the Democratic Party with liberals, that African-Americans cannot think by themselves,” he added.
Jones came under heavy fire back in April after he made a controversial announcement to endorse Trump and then again when he praised the president’s handling of the U.S. economy and his efforts to help the African-American community.
“I’ve been in politics 30 years. I’m college-educated. Better than that, I have plenty of walking-around sense. I know who the hell I want to vote for, I don’t need to be paid,” the Georgia state lawmaker, who had announced in April that he had “left the plantation” and would not be completing his term, continued.
Jones eviscerated Melvin in the MSNBC interview, calling it “disgraceful” that the anchor and the network were pushing the “narrative to keep blacks silent who happen to support this president.”

In his follow-up video message, Jones continued to blast liberals who believe that “African-Americans who are exercising an independent thought” are “selling out for 30 pieces of silver” and are calling them sell-outs in order to “keep us on the plantation.”
He went on to reiterate that he is voting for Trump because he has a “track record, a solid record of accomplishments that’s helped not only the black community, but this country.” He contrasted Trump with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden who has “a dream but no track record.”
Jones continued with a bold declaration targeting liberals.
“I want to say to the liberal media and to the liberals in the Democratic Party: Vernon Jones is unbought and unbossed, and you are not going to silence me,” he said.
“As a matter of fact, you may as well get ready to, what? Feel the Vern,” he added. “Because I am coming at you. You are not going to silence me. I’m going to pull that sheet back and show everybody that bigotry.”
Twitter users celebrated Jones’ bold stand and his remarks in the video.
