Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo cornered former senior adviser to President Obama Valerie Jarrett about the FBI’s Russia probe and meddling in the U.S. election.

Fox Business Channel’s “Mornings with Maria” host confronted Jarrett about the Obama administration’s activities leading up to the 2016 election and the Oval Office transition as President Donald Trump assumed power, repeatedly asking direct questions that Jarrett continued to deflect.

Bartiromo asked Jarrett if she thought former FBI Director James Comey should go to jail after pursuing the investigation into alleged collusion by the Trump campaign based on the “garbage” Steel dossier.

“Well, Maria, look, I have a high degree of confidence that our intelligence community, our investigators comported themselves responsibly,” Jarrett replied.

“I can’t tell you all of the reasons why Comey went forward with his investigation. Maybe this was one piece of a bigger puzzle. But I do know that it’s nearly four years ago and I don’t understand why our focus isn’t on what’s happening right now and today,” she added, in an argument she repeated throughout the interview.

“That’s the investigation I would like to see going on,” she declared.

Bartiromo explained that the issue is current and relevant because right now “we are learning the details of what took place, and we are getting official confirmation that the FBI knew that the dossier was garbage.” She went on to ask Jarrett if she agreed with her colleagues at the time that Michael Flynn should be “unmasked.”

“No, I was not involved in any of those conversations,” she responded, falling back to her narrative.

“But the question I really want to put to you is, what are we doing today? If people want to have an investigation about what happened four years ago, they should do that,” Jarrett said. “But aren’t you concerned about what’s going on right now? Aren’t you worried about the integrity of our upcoming elections? Aren’t you worried about how we’re going to have a safe and fair election?”

“Valerie, that’s exactly why I’m asking you these questions, because I am a patriot and do not want to see people in positions of power put their finger on the scale and make up a story that there’s collusion with a foreign power when there’s absolutely no evidence of that,” Bartiromo shot back.

“So this was an election year. You’ve got one campaign paying for dirt on another campaign, and you’ve got the amazing intelligence agencies of our government weaponized. So that’s what has taken place here,” the Fox Business host continued.

“You’re saying you knew nothing about it? You were President Obama’s right hand. And a lot of people wonder how much President Obama directed this. So I ask you, did President Obama direct any of this?” she asked Jarrett directly.

“That’s not how it works,” Jarrett replied. “That’s not how our investigations work…we leave that to the intelligence community to bring forward information, and the dossier, I would imagine, would be one piece of a much bigger puzzle.

“And so, if you’re saying, ‘Is it important to make sure that there isn’t influence…’ And actually, the Mueller report didn’t conclude that there wasn’t any wrongdoing. In fact, he was explicit in saying quite the opposite,” she continued.

“And so, I don’t think we should read in where there haven’t been actually any conclusions to that effect yet,” Jarrett said, telling Bartiromo she was “making statements that actually haven’t been proven to be fact.”

“Just to be clear, Robert Mueller said no collusion. Michael Horowitz, the I.G. of the FBI said that the dossier was, quote, unquote, an essential piece of all of this investigating of the Trump campaign. ‘Essential piece’ was the word Michael Horowitz used,” Bartiromo interjected.

“You say it was part of a larger mosaic. We have no evidence of that. We only have evidence of the dossier,” she concluded. “But I really appreciate you coming on this morning and answering the tough questions that our audience certainly wants answers to.”

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany dismissed Jarrett’s interview as yet “another case of the Obama administration officials trying to cover up what they did” to President Trump.

“The fact is, this president was exonerated,” she said on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday where she spoke about the  “documented history of lies” from the Obama administration about the Russia investigation.

“And, the people who have questions to answer [are] people like Susan Rice who said on PBS: ‘I know nothing about Trump administration officials getting caught up in foreign surveillance,’” McEnany added. “When, in fact, she herself wrote an e-mail on her way out the door talking about an Oval Office meeting with President Obama and Vice President Biden where they talked about Michael Flynn and the Logan Act and the fact that he was caught up in surveillance.”

“There is a documented history of lies from this administration as they try to cover up for their misdeeds against President Trump,” she said.

McEnany called out Democrats for having a “problem” with Attorney General Barr for “taking ‘Russiagate’ seriously,” speaking ahead of Barr testifying on Capitol Hill Tuesday and slamming “this bogus sham effort that was launched against President Trump when he was just a candidate.”

“The fact that Bill Barr is looking into why the Obama Administration spied on Trump campaign is their real problem,” she said. “That he is in [search] of the truth. And, that is their problem with Attorney General Barr.”
