Police union chief accuses Chicago Mayor of ‘intentionally’ running city into the ground after ‘unhinged’ texts

While Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been busy this past week or so insulting White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and trashing President Donald Trump’s efforts to help her city, her own police officials have been busy trashing her.

Appearing on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” this Tuesday, Chicago Fraternal Order of Police president John Catanzara ruthlessly slammed Lightfoot for running the city “into an iceberg” like the Titanic and accused her of being “unhinged, unprofessional, childish.”

Listen below:

As evidence of the “unhinged, unprofessional, childish” accusation, he pointed to text messages the temper-prone mayor had sent him after he’d submitted the following public letter to the president last week asking for assistance:

This is the letter that will get to President Trump’s desk one way or another.

“The mayor became unhinged. I wish I could show you the text messages that she sent me over the weekend as soon as she found out that I had sent the request to President Trump. I mean, she’s the one who became totally unhinged, unprofessional, childish. It was really pathetic for a leader of a city,” he told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

Not only does the mayor have a history of making profane, incendiary remarks to her own officials, but on Wednesday she doubled down by defending her decision to reportedly call Catanzara a “clown,” “cartoon character” and “total fraud.”

“In the middle of everything that’s going on, in a craven political move, this man waved his hand to President Trump and invited him to bring federal troops into our city, federal troops into our city, a la Portland,” she reportedly added. “How is that responsible? How does that make sense? What he should be doing is focusing on the things that [are] actually important to his members.”

Continuing his remarks on FNC, Catanzara pointed out that criminals in Chicago know that “there’s no consequences” in Chicago because “the justice system in Cook County is totally broken” thanks to corrupt and/or inept officials like Lightfoot, among others.

Just earlier that afternoon, a shootout broke out at a funeral for someone who’d been gunned down a week ago.

It was this stunning attack — one of so many that have plagued Chicago for months now — that prompted the president to announce a day later that he would be deploying a surge of federal troops to Chicago to help quell the violence.

In response, Lightfoot became “unhinged,” but not about the shooting — rather about Catanzara asking for help, and the president agreeing to provide that help.

“She’s literally running the Titanic into an iceberg intentionally. Fifty-six rounds fired, I’m told, and 17 people shot tonight at a funeral where there was police special attention because of the gang victim that was already being waked at the funeral home,” Catanzara continued.

“The irony about her not knowing the city streets and the federal officers … she just fired an outsider who didn’t know the streets, didn’t know the streets, so what’s the difference? Again, she’s a big hypocrite, she has a bit of a Napolean complex. If you don’t agree with her, heaven forbid.”

She’s a “big hypocrite” indeed.

After Illinois shut down salons, barbershops and other businesses during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Lightfoot eagerly demanded that her constituents “stay at home”:

Yet given as she seems to think she’s superior to everybody else, she decided to go ahead and visit a stylist and get a fancy haircut for herself:

And then when confronted about her hypocrisy, she lost her temper again.

“I’m the public face of this city! I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye. I take my personal hygiene very seriously. I felt like I needed to have a haircut. I’m not able to do that myself, so I got a haircut. You want to talk more about that?” she reportedly barked at the time.

Months later, she’s displaying the same strain of hypocrisy — and the same never-ending temper tantrums — as her city is rocked by endless violence, riots and destruction. And as usual, very little of her anger appears to be aimed at the actual bad guys.
