Chicago mayor tweets to refuse ‘Trump’s terrorizing troops’ as 14 residents are hurt in shootout

With violence spiraling out of control in Chicago, President Donald Trump will send federal agents to help counter the surge, and Mayor Lori Lightfoot took to Twitter to play politics.

“Under no circumstances will I allow Donald Trump’s troops to come to Chicago and terrorize our residents,” the Democratic mayor tweeted.

Lightfoot’s political grandstanding comes on a day when fourteen people were left wounded after a gun battle at a Chicago funeral home — during a service for a man gunned down last week.

“All we saw was bodies just laying everywhere. They were shot up everywhere,” said a resident near the funeral home, according to the Sun-Times. “We thought it was a war out here. It’s ridiculous all the shooting that’s going on out here, it really has to stop.”

While the incident rings of something expected in a Middle East war zone, that’s just another day in the Windy City, which saw 25 people struck by gunfire Monday after a weekend where 70 people were shot.

On July 11, the Chicago Tribune reported that 1,901 people have been shot this year, an increase of 550 over the same time period in 2019.

With the left demonizing law enforcement and looking to defund police, murders are surging in one Democrat-run city after another and Trump is expected to announce a new federal anti-crime initiative Wednesday afternoon to combat the rising violence in American cities, ABC7 Chicago reported.

Chicago will be among the cities to see an expanded federal law enforcement presence.

Lightfoot blamed the violence on too many guns in the street, although Chicago has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country.

This coming after the mayor tried to blame the increase in violence on COVID-19 after a bloody Fourth of July weekend that saw a 7-year-old child shot and killed.

On the same day Mayor Lightfoot deployed ‘Census Cowboy,’ a bizarre campaign to promote the U.S. Census, with the mayor urging residents to “giddy up,” she would also send a letter to the White House saying the city does not “need” federal agents, according to CBS Chicago.

“What we do not need, and what will certainly make our community less safe is secret, federal agents deployed to Chicago,” she wrote in the letter sent Monday. “Any other form of militarized assistance within our borders that would not be within our control or within the direct command of the Chicago Police Department would spell disaster.”

In a reference to events in Portland, Mayor Lightfoot told MSNBC she wouldn’t allow “tyranny” in Chicago, but did admit that the city would be working “collaboratively” with the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to counter the violence, the Tribune reported.

Amid the chaos, Lightfoot finds plenty of time to feud with the White House, as was seen over the weekend when she called press secretary Kayleigh McEnany of being a “Karen.”

McEnany, who had pointed out that Lightfoot was “doing a very poor job at securing her streets,” slayed the Democrat in over her head when she countered by calling her “Mayor Lightweight.”

As for Chicago residents being “terrorized,” there was a “blue check” parade offering a reminder of who is doing the terrorizing:

NOTE: A previous headline stated 14 people were shot. It has been changed to make clear that 14 people were injured in the shootout at the time of publication.
