Portland officer sounds off: ‘Says something when you have more minorities on police side than the violent crowd’

According to Portland Police Bureau officer Jakhary Jackson, it seems the majority of hooligans who’ve been stirring chaos in the beleaguered Oregon city aren’t minorities pushing for “racial justice,” but rather whites who “have no idea what racism is all about.”

Speaking last week with local station KPTV, Jackson, a 9-year police veteran, described how his interactions with minority protesters in Portland tend to differ sharply from his interactions with white ones.

A lot of times, someone of color – black, Hispanic, Asian — come up to the fence and directly want to talk to me. ‘Hey, what do you think about George Floyd? What do you think about what happened about this?’” he explained.

But every time he tries to speak with genuinely peaceful protesters of color, out of nowhere pops up a white “protester” hellbent on preventing meaningful dialogue.

I go up to the fence, someone white comes up, ‘f-the police, don’t talk to him,'” Lovell explained.

I got to see folks that really do want change like the rest of us that have been impacted by racism. And then I got to see those people get faded out by people that have no idea what racism is all about, never experienced racism, that don’t even know that the tactics that they are using are the same tactics that were used against my people.”

Listen:

Jackson doubled down on this sentiment during a recorded interview published this week by the Portland Police Bureau.

“Every time I try to have a conversation with someone that looks like me, someone white comes up and tells them not to talk,” he said.

It says something when you’re at a Black Lives Matter protest, you have more minorities on the police side than you have in a violent crowd, and you have white people screaming at black officers: ‘You have the biggest nose I’ve ever seen.’

Listen:

Based on Jackson’s observations, it seems that as far as Portland is concerned — and to be clear, what’s happening in Portland isn’t representative of what’s happening everywhere — white punks are the problem, not minority punks.

The data suggests he could be right. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, whites make up nearly 80 percent of Portland’s population, whereas blacks make up less than six percent. That’s odd considering the city is supposed to be a bastion of “progressivism.”

Furthermore, local journalist Andy Ngo frequently posts mugshots from Portland arrests, and those mugshots tend to be predominantly white, though this isn’t to say that the area doesn’t contain its fair share of minority “protesters” as well.

Ever since the killing of Minneapolis black suspect George Floyd in late May, Portland, a bastion of far-left “thought” (or the lack thereof) has been rocked by daily riots that have seen businesses damaged, monuments vandalized and people killed.

“From July 1-13 last year, police responded to 11 shooting incidents. During the same time period this year, there have been 42 shootings, nearly four times as many,” local station KGW reported Tuesday.

“The homicide count for the year is up to 16 now. Eighteen-year-old Shai-India Harris was killed on the street in Southeast Portland’s Lents neighborhood last Friday afternoon. Witnesses say she was standing outside a car and arguing with people inside when she was shot.”

But instead of working to quell the violence, the city’s far-left white leaders have been dropping charges against rioters (including arsonists), throwing local officers like Jackson under the bus and trashing President Donald Trump.

Why the president? Because he had the apparent gall to order Department of Homeland Security authorities to enter the city and try to restore law and order.

This angered Mayor Ted Wheeler, who’s shown no such anger toward the “protesters” and rioters who’ve devastated his city:

To hear Wheeler tell it, Trump is practically responsible for all the violence that’s raged across the city for nearly two full months now …

His rhetoric speaks to the growing disconnect between the reality on the ground, as described by Jackson and seen in endless reports, and the fantasy world inhabited by white liberal “elites” like Wheeler, among many others.
