New York City residents offered an eye-opening perspective on calls by Black Lives Matter activists to abolish the police.
White liberals in the city’s East Village area slammed law enforcement while black residents in Harlem countered with a sobering and sensible take as seen in a video by filmmaker and journalist Ari Horowitz.

“Do Black lives really matter to the Left? Spoiler alert…..they don’t and I prove it,” Horowitz captioned his short film.
“There are many on the left who want to abolish the police, feeling that communities of color will be better off without them,” he said in the video introduction.
The left’s narrative was shot full of holes as Horowitz spoke first with white demonstrators who called police officers “monsters” and then Harlem residents who declared that defunding law enforcement would basically be “suicide.”
One East Village resident was sure the black community would be “infinitely” better off without police.
“I’d rather have something that doesn’t work without them than what we currently have which is something that doesn’t work with them,” another white liberal declared.
“I think that they are…disgusting,” he added. “I just f–ing hate the police and everything they stand for.”
“Absolutely,” another white man responded when asked if abolishing police would help the black community. “They’re monsters.”
He was confident that people in black communities in New York felt the same way and “probably worse.”
“Policing in this country is about keeping black people down,” another said, referring to law enforcement as an “occupying army” that “arose out of slave catching patrols.”
One man was sure there is a “ton” of rage on the streets by the black community against the police.
But over on Malcolm X Boulevard in Harlem, the views about eliminating or defunding police were decidedly different.
“I think they’re full of crap,” one man told Horowitz.
“I think they’re being somewhat ignorant,” a woman with him added.
“I approve for them to be here,” the man later added, saying the police are “needed.” He noted that his 8-year-old son wants to be a police officer and he is encouraging him.
Another man insisted it would make the neighborhood “very dangerous,” adding “because it would be crazy!”
“It would be worse than what it is … robberies, looting, raping, murder,” he told the filmmaker.
“I have family members that are police. I respect the police,” another woman said. “I would not want to see a lawless society.”
She added that the police are “invested in the community,” noting that, although she supports them she does not support police brutality.
“Abolishing the NYPD?” a man in a Black Lives Matter shirt asked. “That would be suicide.”
“There’s too many criminals out here. Are you kidding me? I wouldn’t feel safe. ” he added.
“We need control over this city. So I think that the police, the police are necessary,” another resident stated while his friend acknowledged the relationship between residents of the community and the NYPD is “pretty good.”
“You know, all police officers are not bad. You know, you got some of them that really care about the people and really want to help the people,” he said.
Horowitz earned plenty of praise on Twitter for exposing the hypocrisy of the left’s narrative.
