Has CNN anchor Jake Tapper been struck by a sudden twinge of conscience or something?
It’s not a reach to suggest CNN has an unhealthy obsession with destroying President Donald Trump, who is not shy about labeling the network as “fake news,” but reporter Jim Acosta occasionally removes any question about this agenda.
On Thursday, the Trump-hating primadonna chief White House correspondent dishonestly portrayed a quote from White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany to drive outrage over the administration’s push to reopen schools in the fall.
Acosta cherry-picked from McEnany’s remarks, tweeting the quote: “The science should not stand in the way of this.”
Tapper clapped back on Twitter, where he urged his media colleagues to “be fair.”
Folks read the ENTIRE McEnany comment about "the science should not stand in the way" of opening schools. She's arguing that the science is on the side of those who want to open them, she cites a JAMA study. I'm not taking a position on the matter but be fair.

But, Acosta’s tweet had already helped cement the narrative for the resistance, and when Tapper featured CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta to comment on the administration’s stance on reopening schools, Gupta tried to zero in on the quote presented out of context.
(Tapper ran a clip beforehand that included McEnany adding, “The science is on our side here.”)
“Well, first of all, I don’t think you ever want to say the science should not stand in the way of this,” Gupta said. “I don’t know exactly what she was referring to by that or if she was just misspeaking. That sounded like an alternate facts sort of moment there.”
Before he could expand any further, Tapper interrupted.
“I think she was trying to say the science shouldn’t stand in the way because the science is on our side,” the anchor observed. “I don’t know that all of the science is on their side — certainly, this White House, their respect for science knows bounds, let’s put it that way. But I think that’s what she was getting at.”
The fact that Tapper felt obliged to give the Trump White House a fair shake is not par for the course on a network that all but dedicates 24/7 coverage to taking down this president.
“If you look at the criteria, the criteria released by the task force in terms of making these decisions, it becomes increasingly clear,” Gupta said. “I want my kids in school as well. Everyone always says that as a preface, it’s without a doubt, people want their kids back in school, if possible. The issue, Jake, we know that kids aren’t as likely to get sick from this coronavirus.”
Tapper took to Twitter after Acosta’s disingenuous tweet, encouraging people to read McEnany’s full quote.
“She’s arguing that the science is on the side of those who want to open them, she cites a JAMA study. I’m not taking a position on the matter but be fair,” he tweeted.
To be sure he was not evicted from the resistance over the call for fair play, Tapper did follow that up with a shot at the administration,
He added: “Before the familiar voices jump on this to score whatever political points they want, the facts are also clear that the president has ignored science and health experts far too many times and the US response is empirically a failure compared to the rest of the Western world.”
