New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was slammed on social media after he unveiled a tone-deaf poster celebrating his state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Displaying the title “New York Tough,” the poster was touted by the Democrat governor during a press conference Monday and purports to point out the COVID-19 journey in the Empire State where more than 30,000 people died from the virus. The poster also takes an insulting shot at both President Donald Trump and the U.S. Navy.

“I love history. I love poster art. Poster art is something they did in the early 1900s, late 1800s, when they had to communicate their whole platform on one piece of paper,” Cuomo said.
“Over the past few years I’ve done my own posters that capture that feeling. I did a new one for what we went through with COVID and I think the general shape is familiar to you,” he added. “We went up the mountain, we curved the mountain, we came down the other side and these are little telltale signs that, to me, represent what was going on.”
A quote attributed to Cuomo, “Wake up America! Forget the politics, get smart!” is featured near the top of the self-congratulating poster which is available on pre-order for $14.50.
The poster highlights many of Cuomo’s version of the facts, including an image of a plane marked “Europeans,” “COVID-19,” “Jan-Mar,” and “3 million,” apparently missing the connection to China which is where the outbreak of the virus originated.
Trump is depicted sitting on a crescent moon, removed from the immediate activities and with a caption that reads, “It’s just the flu.” This despite the president’s intervention in his former home state, supplying the incompetent Democrat state leaders with thousands of ventilators, personal protection equipment as well as ordering the Army Corps of Engineers to work on construction of field hospitals.

The USNS Comfort, which was deployed to New York City to help handle the overwhelming number of hospital cases during the height of the pandemic, is nowhere to be seen on the poster, though masks, social distancing and Cuomo driving a muscle car all appear on the drawing.
“The narcissism and gall is stunning,” journalist Jeryl Bier tweeted.
Activist Shaun King found the idea of the poster “troubling.”
Your inaction and infighting with the Mayor caused thousands of deaths.
Nearly every expert in the nation says had you acted sooner it could’ve saved nearly 10,000 lives.
That you think it’s time for posters touting your “success” is troubling.

Cuomo has been slammed for the poor decisions and coronavirus orders that led to thousands of deaths in New York, with many elder residents dying in nursing homes.
Fox News’s Janice Dean slammed Cuomo for what was not in his poster, asking in a tweet: “Where are the nursing homes on this little cartoon representation of @NYGovCuomo’s leadership during the pandemic?”
Both of Dean’s in-laws died due to New York’s policy of having patients recovering from COVID-19 to go back into nursing and assisted living homes.

Seriously how much of an ego maniac do you have to be to make a poster of yourself while 30,000 New Yorkers died on your watch? Thousands of those were seniors. Every day I’m more grossed out by @NYGovCuomo. It’s really quite something.

The Fox News meteorologist called out Cuomo in other tweets, saying he is “no stranger to embarrassing political posters, saluting his own leadership and the achievements in the coronavirus crisis.”
“If New Yorkers could die from cringing, its chief executive would’ve just caused a new public health crisis,” she added.
In another series of tweets on Monday, Dean said she is getting messages from people saying Cuomo is “too powerful and too feared” to be held accountable.
You can tell during his interviews and press conferences. His indifference, bully behavior and lack of empathy shows he knows most won’t go after him. But I will keep going against the giant cuomo machine. Because I have to. I owe it to my family and my husband’s parents.

Others continued to slam the governor on Twitter for releasing the poster.
This is awful

Selling merch celebrating yourself when 32,000 New Yorkers lost their lives, including 6,000 that you played a pretty big role in. Beyond grotesque.

I think that poster is what’s called rewriting history

Remember the time that Governor Cuomo said he wasn’t going to have press conferences anymore unless it was really, really important? Then he had a press conference to unveil a poster he made.
