‘We have to start beating back this lie’: Critics slam ‘unlearn racism’ proposal of West Point black cadets

The U.S. Military Academy, known colloquially as West Point, has become mired in racial politics again thanks to a radical proposal by nine recent graduates.

Predicated on the belief that West Point is tainted with so-called “systemic racism,” the proposal calls for a slew of radical policies that have virtually nothing to do with military preparedness and would be better suited at Safe Space College.

The policies would, among other things, force cadets to “unlearn racism,” redo all courses so “the inclusion of Black, Latinx and other marginalized people” is achieved, establish “an independent anti-racism advisory committee” and “invest in spaces that protect and nurture Black Cadets’ identities.”

The recent graduates who penned the proposal claim it’s necessary because they were allegedly called racial slurs during their time at the academy.

Speaking Friday evening on Fox News’ “Fox News @ Night,” military analyst Johnny “Joey” Jones and Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute both expressed shock, dismay and disgust at the news that West Point has, thanks to the proposal, now reportedly begun a “comprehensive review of all matters involving race.”

According to Jones, West Point cadets should be learning about the “fundamentals of leadership” and “war,” not being indoctrinated with racial nonsense.

“If West Point becomes the next place where the tail wags the dog, we’ve not only lost our cultural war, we might have lost the next war we have to fight, because these are distractions. By all means, West Point should be a place of equality and fairness and learning, but it should not be a place for the Black Lives Matter manifesto,” he said.

The proposal does indeed mirror the radical propaganda spewed by BLM.

In response to Jones’ remarks, host Shannon Bream turned her attention to Mac Donald and confronted her with the cadets’ claim that they’d been called racial slurs.

“It sounds like they’ve got some legitimate concerns,” she said.

Mac Donald disagreed.

“Well, I’m not certain about that, Shannon. I’d like to know the context. These cadets are hazing each other all the time,” she replied.

Trash-talking and hazing do appear to be commonplace among male members of military academies. In fact, President Donald Trump reportedly experienced it himself during his stay at the New York Military Academy way back in 1964.

“The fact of the matter is that there’s no institutional racism in the military or at West Point. You are likely to get promoted at an accelerated rate if you’re a person of color. The military is absolutely determined to bring as many people of color into its higher ranks as possible,” Mac Donald added.

This may be true. In a report last year, the Associated Press attributed West Point’s graduation of a “record number of black female cadets” to “concerted efforts to diversify West Point’s Long Gray Line.”

And according to a piece from The Wall Street Journal’s then-executive Washington editor Albert R. Hunt published in 2003, affirmative action “began at the service academies in the 70s due to political pressure and a critical need to provide more diverse leaders in America’s military.”

Moreover, just last month Defense Secretary Mark Esper unveiled three new initiatives designed to expand so-called racial “diversity.”

Watch:

These are the facts.

“So I agree with Mr. Jones, this is a vision that’s determined by an ideology rather than the facts. West Point is like every mainstream institution today, which is trying as hard as it possibly can to hire and promote as many underrepresented minorities as possible,” Mac Donald continued.

“We have to start beating back this lie that there is systemic racism in this country because that’s simply not the case. But as long as that remains the dominant narrative, the left wins, and it is undoing meritocratic standards in every institution we’ve got.”

That is also true. The misguided notion of “diversity” is being used to gut meritocracy and replace it with a system where people are accepted into college, chosen for grants or hired based not on merit but rather on immutable traits such as race.

For some inexplicable reason, members of the contemporary left have argued that focusing on immutable traits versus merit will lead to more racial equality and harmony. The facts strongly suggest otherwise

Like even The New Republic, a far-left magazine, admitted in 2013, “Race-Based Affirmative Action Makes Things Worse, Not Better.”

“[T]he evidence shows that racial preferences make things worse, not better, by setting up many of our best black and Hispanic students for academic frustration, by neglecting our most promising working-class and low-income students, and by papering over the real problem,” the outlet reported.

Yet this is what the left and their beloved Black Lives Matter cult and religion want for society …
