Just as the hoopla was beginning to die down over the NASCAR hoax involving a garage door pull being mistaken for a noose directed at the sport’s lone black driver, President Donald Trump entered the fray.
Taking to Twitter Monday morning, the president asked if Wallace had apologized for his role in the matter.
Trump tweeted: “Has @BubbaWallace apologized to all of those great NASCAR drivers & officials who came to his aid, stood by his side, & were willing to sacrifice everything for him, only to find out that the whole thing was just another HOAX? That & Flag decision has caused lowest ratings EVER!”

The “noose” found in the garage stall Wallace’s race team was assigned during a late June race in Talladega, Ala., had been in place since October 2019.
It took 15 FBI agents to investigate the matter, although a 2019 photo of the rope was making the rounds online. And before the facts were determined, Wallace declared the rope with a loop at the end a “despicable act of racism and hatred.”
After it was determined not to be a “hate crime,” the driver doubled down during an appearance on CNN, telling liberal host Don Lemon the pull rope was a “straight-up noose.”
Wallace did acknowledge later that things weren’t as they appeared, saying, “I think we’ll gladly take a little embarrassment over what the alternatives could have been.”
Of course, he took his lead from NASCAR President Steve Phelps, who brought race into the picture before having any of the facts.
Overreacting, Phelps released a statement called it a “heinous” act, saying NASCAR was “angry and outraged,” and that “there is no place for racism” in the sport.
The entire sport was made to look like fools, as the other drivers and crews all pushed Wallace’s car to the front of the field prior to the race that week, with the drive inside.
Wallace also called on NASCAR to ban the Confederate flag at races and the sport complied, desperately trying to convince liberals hung up on a stereotype from more than half a century ago that it’s innocent of a crime it did not commit.
As for ratings, Sports Media Watch reported that the NASCAR race at Homestead-Miami hit a new record-low in the ratings.
Held three weeks ago and televised on Fox, the event marked the lowest rating in the history of the race.
Nonetheless, the Trump-hating media engaged in a mad rush to prove the president wrong on the ratings remark. Statistics are so easily manipulated, given the objective of the manipulator.
Two of the bigger media names in the sport, who were quick to come to NASCAR’s defense amid the fiasco, and stand with Wallace, were also quick to respond to the president’s tweet.
Jeff Gluck, who hails from Seattle, disputed the characterization of a “hoax,” and claimed ratings have not been affected.
Mr. President, your premise is false.
1) It wasn’t a “hoax.” Everyone involved truly believed it was threat directed at Wallace. And Wallace didn’t report it; he was informed about it.
2) There hasn’t been any noticeable impact on the ratings, which are not the lowest ever.

Dave Moody went a step further, effectively calling President Trump an idiot by referring to his remarks as “idiotic.”
We cannot prevent people from being woefully uninformed and twisting events to serve their own purposes. But we can choose not to dignify idiotic statements with a response. Just this once, how about we all just let it go and pay it exactly as much attention as it deserves. None

Then again, once it was determined that NASCAR blew it, courtesy of Phelps, the entire sport was eager to sweep the controversy under the rug and get back to racing.
