Actor and comedian Terry Crews was attacked on social media after more comments he made on his concerns about the Black Lives Matter movement.
The “America’s Got Talent” host sparked instant backlash when he shared a warning that the movement could “morph” into “Black lives better,” continuing to voice his outspoken concerns about the potential of creating “black supremacy.”
“If you are a child of God, you are my brother and sister. I have family of every race, creed and ideology,” the 51-year-old actor wrote, expressing his thoughts on the value of black lives in a tweet on Tuesday. “We must ensure #blacklivesmatter doesn’t morph into #blacklivesbetter.”

But his warning about the potential of elevating the lives of black people over other races sparked anger and many called out the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star on Twitter.
“We’re so far from that bridge, Terry,” Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, tweeted, saying the movement “is, in part, a rallying cry and a protest slogan to galvanize people into doing the justice work needed to derail the deaths, dehumanization and destruction of Black lives that racism causes.”
“Justice is not a competition,” King told Crews.

Actress Holly Robinson Peete admonished Crews as well.

Cheo Hodari Coker, the creator of “Luke Cage” asked, “Terry, what’s going on, man?”
“I know you’re better than this, and Twitter isn’t the space for the conversation. Holler at me. Inbox me. I’m concerned, brother,” Coker wrote. “Blacklivesmatter isn’t supremacy: it’s common righteous sense. It’s respect. it’s love.”

Comedian and activist Amanda Seales called Crews out for the “unintellectual and irresponsible” remark.
“You are developing into an enemy of the people. Ignorance will be your downfall,” she tweeted.

Earlier in June, following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis which sparked weeks of Black Lives Matter protests and civil unrest, Crews had spoken out on the issue and ignited backlash.
“Defeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy. Equality is the truth. Like it or not, we are all in this together,” he wrote.
“I was not saying Black supremacy exists, because it doesn’t,” he said later, defending himself. “I am saying if both Black and Whites don’t continue to work together — bad attitudes and resentments can create a dangerous self-righteousness. That’s all.”

Though his latest tweet still rubbed some people the wrong way, there were plenty of other voices on Twitter who applauded Crews for taking a bold stand.
