Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best faces increasing scrutiny over her willful decision to let the left-wing extremists inside the so-called Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) run roughshod over the rights of local business owners.
She of course has claimed everything is hunky-dory.
“There is no cop-free zone in the city of Seattle,” she said Monday. “I think that the picture has been painted in many areas that shows the city is under siege. That is not the case.”
But speaking with station KIRO, local auto shop owner John McDermott told a different story. He said he and his son were forced to stop a burglar/arsonist themselves because Best’s officers refused to show up on the scene and do their jobs.

The ruckus started early Monday morning when McDermott was informed that someone was trying to break into his Capitol Hill shop, Car Tender, and set it on fire.
“He and his son said the suspect put hand sanitizer all over a cassette tape, pulled out the film, and put hand sanitizer all over it as well as the counter – then lit it all on fire,” KIRO reported. “McDermott said they walked in right after the fire was lit and managed to quickly snuff it out.”
The suspect tried fleeing from the south side of the building, so McDermott’s son, Mason, gave chase.
“I chased him down and as soon as I came face to face, he came at me so I put him on the ground,” Mason said. “At some point, he tried to cut me with a box cutter.”
As Mason held the suspect down, his father reportedly called 911. After nobody showed up, he called 911 again. The process repeated itself 19 times.
“I’m told 19 times, they alluded they were sending someone … finally said they weren’t going to send somebody,” McDermott said.
“I don’t know what to expect next. If you can’t call the police department, you can’t call the fire department to respond, what do you have? Heartbroken. I mean, they are the cavalry.”
Not anymore, it would appear. McDermott and his son eventually released the suspect, lest they be forced to detain him all night.
“There were no police officers on scene ever. And I was here all night long,” he later said in a statement to local station KING.
As if that weren’t horrific enough, what happened next ought to horrify anyone living within the vicinity of CHOP.
According to McDermott, a band of unruly CHOP protesters who’d heard about the incident showed up, knocked over the fence surrounding his business and demanded they release the suspect (who’d already been released, as noted earlier).

McDermott wasn’t pleased by the police’s inaction.
“We’re just trying to run a small business, make a living, be good members of society. And try to be good neighbors to the neighborhood and I think we’ve really been let down by the mayor’s office, the Seattle Police Department and the fire department,” he told KING.
Yet Best appears to disagree.
During a press conference later Monday, the Black Lives Matter-friendly chief first claimed “there is no cop-free zone in the city of Seattle” but she then turned around and admitted that some of the calls her department had received the night before had been purposefully ignored.
“Best said that officers did respond to the calls last night and observed from a distance, but did not see anything that was a threat to life and safety,” KIRO reported.
So which is it? Is there no-cop free zone in Seattle, or are there indeed cop-free zones?
Best added, “We are trying to avoid anything that will escalate, we are working hard to get a peaceful resolution.”
Apparently, forcing business owners to apprehend burglars/arsonists and then release them back onto the streets counts as “peaceful” to her.
This from the same city official who, just like the mayor, refuses to take any responsibility for the madness engulfing Seattle.

It’s not clear if she’s even spoken with McDermott. However, Seattle Fire Chief Harold Scoggins has.
“[He] stopped by the business late Monday morning to speak with the McDermott,” KIRO reported. “He said they need clearance from SPD to respond inside the CHAZ/ CHOP zone, but should’ve been able to respond to Car Trader, which is outside the zone. He said the fire department is looking into why no one responded.”
Meanwhile, as businesses have been forced to fend for themselves, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan has reportedly been busy pursuing a “Tip O’Neil-Ronald Reagan type” compromise involving CHOPistanis giving up a little territory in exchange for concrete blocks that are to be used as border barriers, according to KTTH’s Jason Rantz.
