Has the cultural cleansing of America begun in earnest?
With racial discord dominating front pages following the death of George Floyd, HBO Max has pulled the Oscar-winning Civil War epic film “Gone With the Wind” from its library, Fox News reported.
The 1939 film takes place at an Atlanta plantation during the Civil War, and liberals today take exception to the depiction of black people.
“Gone With the Wind” won eight Oscars including best picture, with actress Hattie McDaniel making history by becoming the first black American to win an Oscar for her performance, according to Fox News.

Ironically, today is McDaniel’s birthday.
Born today in 1893: the great Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win an Academy Award. Her acceptance speech is always so moving to watch.

An HBO Max spokesperson explained the decision in a statement and said the film will be returned with added “historical context” — see progressive indoctrination.
“‘Gone With the Wind’ is a product of its time and depicts some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that have, unfortunately, been commonplace in American society,” the statement said. “These racist depictions were wrong then and are wrong today, and we felt that to keep this title up without an explanation and a denouncement of those depictions would be irresponsible.”
“These depictions are certainly counter to WarnerMedia’s values, so when we return the film to HBO Max, it will return with a discussion of its historical context and a denouncement of those very depictions but will be presented as it was originally created because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed,” the release continued. “If we are to create a more just, equitable, and inclusive future, we must first acknowledge and underhand our history.
To get a feel for who’s running the show at HBO Max, the streaming service has also decided to censor “Looney Tunes” cartoons, circa 1940s, by stripping characters like Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam of guns in a reboot.
Somewhat fittingly, a scythe was inserted as a replacement in some scenes — which calls to mind a hammer and sickle.
Amid the media effort to vilify law enforcement, Fox News reported that Paramount Television announced it has canceled the long-running TV series “Cops.”
In truth, the effort on the left to remove history from the American landscape when it fails to adhere to progressive orthodoxy is ongoing, as seen in the response to statues featuring Confederate generals who fought in the Civil War.
But the effort to cleanse American history goes further than that.
In San Francisco, a high school mural featuring George Washington, the father of our country, was recently covered to prevent “unnecessary trauma.”
And Americans wonder why the thousands of young people who hate America fill the streets?
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:

Abraham Lincoln is my favorite past president, but if you love movies and the history of the Civil War you must watch this movie. As a younger man it made me hate slavery even more w/o hating southerners https://t.co/pFl7T5sZiI
