Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser thanked Utah National Guardsmen who answered the call to protect the nation’s capital by kicking them out of the city’s hotels.

The Democrat mayor claimed “overbilling” and budget issues were behind the rude treatment, ordering all non-D.C. troops out of the city with no advance notice. Two hundred service members were informed Thursday night that they had to move out of the downtown DC Marriott hotel they had been staying in during the George Floyd protests and they were to do so by Friday morning.

“Last night, we were informed that our service members would be relocated from their hotel rooms,” the Utah National Guard said in a statement on Friday.

“It has been heartbreaking for our Utah National Guard service members to witness the pain, suffering, and frustration in our communities across the nation,” the statement said. “The Utah National Guard has been supporting civil authorities with our top priority of protecting lives as well as preserving property and critical infrastructure in our nation’s capital.”

While Bowser cited budget reasons for her move, she didn’t have a problem funding the painting of giant yellow “Black Lives Matter” lettering in the street in front of the White House.

The mayor did not even provide the guardsmen the courtesy of more notice, as they were mid-shift in protecting the city that has been rocked by violent protests and looting. Adding insult to injury, Bowser also said the city would not be paying for their accommodations.

“This is overbilling,” she said, insisting that they did not “evict anybody from a private hotel,” and that the home state of the guardsmen was responsible for footing the bill, Fox News reported.

“If they are going to use rooms we reserved, they have to pay for them,” she said. “At no time did we intend or would we would be able to effect evicting any guardsman from any hotel.”

President Donald Trump slammed the mayor as “grossly incompetent” in a tweet Friday and U.S. Sen. Mike Lee of Utah condemned the move as “unacceptable,” slamming Bowser as an “ungrateful mayor” on Twitter.

“Evicting Utah National Guard personnel from their hotels after a late-night shift risking their lives to protect Washington is a shameful, petty, discrediting decision by Mayor Bowser,” Lee said in a statement issued Friday.

Noting that the service members had not complained, the Utah Republican said that their “labor and sacrifice on behalf of Washingtonians deserves better than this embarrassing spectacle.”

“If Mayor Bowser has a problem with President Trump she should take it up with him, not take it out on National Guard personnel in the middle of a dangerous deployment in her city,” Lee added.

With only hours of notice, the 200 Utah National Guard members headed to Washington where they helped local resources to quell rioting, arson, and looting. But, according to a press release from Lee’s office, when they had they “finished their all-night Thursday shift protecting D.C. at 3 am on Friday,” the troops “were forced out of their hotel by 11 am. They have another shift Friday evening at 6 pm until 2 am Saturday morning.”

Lee’s tweets about the mayor’s move set off a Twitter meltdown by the left with many declaring that the Third Amendment prohibits the government from quartering troops, especially over Bowser’s vocal objections. They were quickly schooled on the protections of the Amendment, the fact that Guardsmen in DC were not staying in private homes and they are under federal contract as well as a reminder that the District of Columbia is actually a federal area.

Fox & Friends Weekend” cohost Pete Hegseth, who served with the National Guard in the nation’s capital this week amid the unrest, recounted how tense the situation was, adding that some of the nation’s monuments would have been vandalized if the Guard had not stood to protect them.

“If not for the National Guard, the mayor in Washington, D.C., would have had no way out of the mess that she and others have helped create,” Hegseth said on “Hannity” Friday.

Super Bowl champion and Utah Congressional candidate Burgess Owens simply called Bowser a “Marxist,” noting how those with that political ideology “love chaos, they love pain and misery for those they’re overseeing.”
