While the nation was fed what many see as propaganda about Russia interfering in the 2016 election — there was meddling, but the extent of its effectiveness is dubious — America is now seeing real interference and its coming from within.
With Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey making the bold decision in the wee hours of Friday to censor the President of the United States and double down on the major escalation of its battle with President Trump by extending that censorship to the official White House Twitter account, things just took a serious turn.
The president sent a strong message to social media companies Thursday afternoon when he signed an executive order that could possibly limit their liability protections and federal funding.
Taking aim at Facebook, Google, YouTube and Twitter, Trump noted the “unchecked power” of the online platforms as he called for a review of legal immunity shielding the companies from content posted on their sites.
Twitter’s response to the president effectively paving the way for regulation of social media networks was to hide his commentary about the riots in Minneapolis behind a disclaimer warning he was “glorifying violence.”
The censored tweet reads: “These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”
This Tweet violates our policies regarding the glorification of violence based on the historical context of the last line, its connection to violence, and the risk it could inspire similar actions today. https://t.co/sl4wupRfNH

To get a feel for just how bitter this battle is getting, White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Dan Scavino ripped Twitter for censoring Trump’s tweet.
(** Language warning)
“Twitter is full of shit – more and more people are beginning to get it,” Scavino said in response to a tweet from the company trying to justify its actions.
Twitter is targeting the President of the United States 24/7, while turning their heads to protest organizers who are planning, plotting, and communicating their next moves daily on this very platform. Twitter is full of shit – more and more people are beginning to get it. https://t.co/nQjnIUofsF

After Trump’s tweet was covered by the disclaimer, the White House account posted the quote above, only to have Dorsey and his merry band of liberal suppressors hide that tweet behind the same disclaimer.
Again, the president’s comment was in response to violent thugs burning down their community.
It was suggested that the president was essentially “daring” Twitter to do so — if this proves to be true, the social media giant called his bluff.
Trump here is seemingly daring Twitter to take action against an official government account. But remember, in the eyes of the law there is no difference — Trump’s personal account *is* a government account https://t.co/ONMa8aa7ZC

Keep in mind that Twitter has already taken to tagging Trump’s tweets with editor’s notes to dissuade messages they disagree with, as seen in the recent tweet on mail-in ballots.
Mollie Hemingway, a columnist and editor at The Federalist, hit the nail on the head when she noted: “Twitter moving from general US election meddling in fight against Trump into something more serious. Question is what to do about it.”

The social media giants have been very clear about not allowing their platforms to aid in the reelection of President Trump, after many have accused Big Tech as playing a major role in Trump defeating Hillary Clinton in 2016.
But did Jack Dorsey just take that resistance a step too far?
With sports betting outfits setting odds on Twitter suspending Trump’s account, can there be any suspense about where this is heading?
Should such an occurrence happen a month prior to the November election, it would eliminate a major platform for the president to go around a biased media committed to seeing him be defeated and communicate directly with the American people.
Interference that dwarfs anything Vladimir Putin could ever hope to accomplish.
“Serious” times indeed, Ms. Hemingway… here’s a sampling of responses to her post from Twitter:
Moving from election meddling editor’s note on mail-in ballots tweet to straight up censorship. Both serious but an obvious escalation.

Mollie they don’t care. They just don’t care. They’ll shred the constitution before they let Trump win again. This “democracy” is over.

Until a competitor emerges they will keep doing it. The amusing thing is twitter is a commodity. There is nothing special about it, it just has a lot of users. But so could something else. They’re daring/begging to become friendster.

We (conservative technology) needs to find alternative to all of these social media outlets. They are placing their thumbs on the scales of free speech by silencing & stifling conservatives.

They keep poking that Lion. Eventually he’s going to attack. Yesterday was just the beginning.

There’s no way Sleepy Joe can catch up to Trump’s social media reach, so the next best thing for them to do is stifle POTUS.

Wow. The President is being censored!
Social Media is more powerful than the US Government!

They’re harassing Trump in the mode of Schiff and Pelosi.
