A hair salon owner in Salem, Oregon, says she’ll keep her business own despite getting a $14,000 fine for defying Democrat Governor Kate Brown‘s lockdown order. Lindsey Graham says she has no choice because she needs to make money to support her family.

“I’m risking going to jail to do it. That’s how important it is to my family,” Graham told Fox 12 Oregon. “At this point, it’s more important for me to feed my family and pay the bills that are going to keep our family alive than take the risk to remain being shut down for an undisclosed amount of time.”

Graham is the owner of the Glamour Salon in Salem, Oregon. She reopened her hair salon on May 5 in defiance of Governor Kate Brown’s lockdown.

Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reacted by issuing a $14,000 fine to Graham, saying she’s endangering her workers.

“She is unquestionably operating in violation of the governor’s executive order, designed to protect workers and the public,” a rep for the Oregon OSHA said. “The penalty reflects both the nature of the violation and the employer’s willful decision to violate the law.”

In a press conference last week, Graham said: “I’m being threatened and intimidated and bullied daily by the government.”

Lindsey also insisted that everyone’s job is “essential.”

“Everyone’s job is essential, not because what we do or how we do it, but because it’s how we make our living,” Lindsey said. “I have independent contractors that are choosing to work in this facility. OSHA has illegally deemed them employees and is citing me as an employer, which I am not.”

She added: “I don’t want anyone to get sick. But I also don’t want to go bankrupt and lose everything I worked for and neither do you.”

In a shocking revelation, Graham says Child Protective Services visited her home and interrogated her child after she defied lockdown.

“On May 7, Child Protective Services showed up at my home. They questioned my husband and me. They questioned my child without me present and they searched our home.

I never expected such a violent, aggressive, vindictive thing could ever have been done to me or my family.”

A spokesman for the Department of Human Services said the agency cannot confirm if the visit occurred, due to confidentiality laws.

“I want to stress, however, that not following Governor Brown’s executive order or not following physical distancing guidelines would never be a reason to assign a CPS [Child Protective Services] assessment,” the rep said.

Graham said OSHA gave her three days to shut her hair salon down after issuing the $14,000 fine, and warned that it would issue another citation if she refused.

For now, Graham will keep her salon open. “I’m vowing to stay open as long as I can until the government tries to take away my entire career, something I’ve worked 15 years for,” she said. “I feel persecuted by Kate Brown because she’s governing these agencies and is allowing them to target me.”
