Fox News host Laura Ingraham couldn’t help but have a little fun at the expense of German citizens willing to don giant noodle hats to be compliant with a restaurant’s answer to recommended social distancing guidelines.
Granted, folks have come to really miss the luxury of dining out amid the pandemic brought on by a coronavirus that first originated in Wuhan, China.
But giant noodle hats?
Ingraham tweeted: “And if you don’t wear your noodle, no supper and straight to bed! ‘German restaurant gives patrons hats with pool noodles to keep social distance after reopening.'”

At the behest of Chancellor Angela Merkel, Germany has been allowed to reopen, but the government is still recommending face masks and social distancing, according to The Hill.
In response, the Cafe & Konditorei Rothe in Schwerin, Germany, distributes colorful pool noodles crafted into hats to ward off contact in three directions. While intended to encourage social distancing, the openings between noodles is big enough to drive a Mack truck through.
In the end, the only thing that’s being accomplished for certain is that the diners are being made to look ridiculous.
It’s entirely possible that the German diner “borrowed” the idea from this fellow:
However, it’s a far less creepy solution than what a Virginia restaurant came up with.
To comply with social distancing guidelines, the Inn at Little Washington came up with a plan that involved using dressed-up 1940s-era mannequins to occupy 50% of the tables.
“I think it would do people a world of good to reduce their anxiety level when they come out to a place which is still unaffected, because if you watch your television, you think that there isn’t such a place under a bubble,” said Chef Patrick O’Connell, who started the Inn over four decades ago.
And that is not as creepy as having Chinese-made drones hovering over your head, monitoring your compliance.
Police in Elizabeth, N.J., are using the drones to patrol the city in an effort to enforce social distancing rules, warning in a Facebook post: “Summonses HAVE AND WILL CONTINUE to be issued to those found in violation.”

As for Ingraham’s tweet, the best response may have been the suggestion to have the White House press pool wear noodle hats during briefings — President Trump would walk away with the presidency in November with just one photo of that sight!
Here’s a sampling of other responses from Twitter:

The place where nobody knows your name. Do they have a family version? Do appetizers come on multiple plates? So many questions about this. I haven’t stopped chuckling since seeing it.
