Collective meltdown of ‘stunned’ MSNBC, CNN hosts after Flynn news breaks goes off like clockwork

Hosts and guests on CNN and MSNBC melted down Thursday following the Justice Department’s decision to drop its case against President Donald Trump’s first national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

Alternately describing the decision “terrifying,” “nuts,” and allegedly “demoralizing” to department officials and the FBI, one after another, guests predicted doom and gloom ahead for the “rule of law” when, in fact, the Justice Department is actually righting a wrong by letting Flynn go.

“So I just hung up with a former FBI official who said simply, ‘oh my God’….Mike Flynn’s lawyers have been engaged in a smear campaign very, very similar, torn out of the same playbook as the smear campaign Donald Trump ran against many of the same FBI leaders when he was under investigation by Robert Mueller,” MSNBC co-host Nicolle Wallace claimed.

“It’s a stunning, stunning but I guess any close watcher of William Barr couldn’t describe it as a shocking move from this attorney general in the midst of a pandemic to drop a case against someone who admitted to committing the federal crime of lying to the FBI,” she continued.

Wallace, readers may recall, was the ‘journalist’ who was interviewing fired FBI Director James Comey when he told her he sent the agents over to ‘interview’ Flynn during the early days of the Trump administration — and that he did so because he believed he could get away with breaking protocol.

“I sent them … something we probably wouldn’t have done or maybe gotten away within a more organized investigation, a more organized administration,” he said.

We also now know that the agents sent by Comey plotted to set up Flynn — to catch him in a “lie” so he could be charged with a crime or to use it to get him fired.

Wallace wasn’t the only one at MSNBC ‘aghast’ at the DoJ’s decision.

“It’s a pretty dark place on social media,” ‘Lyin’ Brian Williams,’ the former NBC anchor who fabricated an Iraq war story, said. “The very first comment after the story broke that I saw on Twitter was ‘Putin, if you’re listening, high-five your asset.’ And there are Russian flags and Russian memes popping up in response to this story. It is a dark place, as you mentioned, a story that drops during a pandemic. A public health crisis and economic crisis and yet, here we are.”

Williams’ claim — if even true — is nonsensical, because even the partisan Robert Mueller witch hunt found no evidence to support the widely discredited “Russian collusion” narrative.

Williams went on to ask a former Obama official this question: “What does this do to the FBI and the authority of agents who today and tonight are knocking on doors, pursuing cases and questioning suspects around this country?”

“Well, Brian, if you’re knocking on the door of a friend of the President, it could undermine the work of the FBI,” said Chuck Rosenberg, a former acting Drug Enforcement Agency director.

Never mind that the case against Flynn was fabricated. And notice no one seems to be interested at all in addressing the fact that the world’s most powerful law enforcement agency — the FBI — lied repeatedly to the FISA court, to Congress, and to the American people just because some members of the bureau didn’t like our choice for president.

Let that sink in.

Meanwhile, and predictably, other Obama-era officials chimed in as well. Neal Katyal, former solicitor general, said, “[Y]ou’re asking about Justice Department prosecutors more generally. Nicolle, by and large, most of them don’t deal with Trump or Russia or Trump’s friends…They’re just trying to prosecute all the other laws, and for them, you know, it will be incredibly demoralizing but do they really want to leave and abandon the Justice Department, these political thugs, and I don’t think there’s any other word for it, that want to undermine everything that the department has done for, you know, decades upon decades.”

Given what we know the Justice Department did for Obama, is Katyal saying that the DoJ has done similar underhanded, illegal things for “decades upon decades?”

Speaking of a dishonest Justice Department, Obama’s first attorney general, Eric Holder, put in his two cents.

“There are two, I think, serious problems with the action the Department of Justice took today. One is just the miscarriage of justice in this case,” said Holder, who became the first AG to be held in contempt of Congress for his refusal to turn over documents related to the “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal.

“[A]nd two, Mike Flynn is getting treatment that wouldn’t be available to any other person in the country….It is, I think, breathtaking dishonesty from the Justice Department and as with the Roger Stone case, it is a sign that if you are a friend of the President, you will get different treatment from Bill Barr…and that ought to worry anyone who cares about the rule of law in this country,” Holder continued.

CNN ‘legal analyst’ Jeffrey Toobin claimed that “the fix was in” for Flynn.

“It is one of the most incredible legal documents I have read and certainly something that I never expected to see from the United States Department of Justice. The — the idea that the Justice Department would invent an argument, an argument that the judge, in this case, has already rejected, and say, that’s the basis for dropping a case where the defendant admitted his guilt shows that this is a case where the fix was in,” he said.

Yes, it was; the handwritten notes by FBI agents sent to set Flynn up proved “the fix was in.”
