Kellyanne Conway implicates Obama in Flynn entrapment scandal: ‘Folks, that’s just weird on its face’

Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway on Thursday offered some bombshell insight into the previous administration’s spying on then-GOP nominee Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.

In an interview with Fox News’ “American’s Newsroom” on Friday, Conway implicated former President Barack Obama as having been involved with an alleged plot to both undermine the Trump campaign and then drive him from office after he defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Citing revelations this week that elements of the Obama administration appear to have set up President Trump’s first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, Conway said it’s important to remember that the abuses of power “should have a chilling effect on every American.”

“The fix was in,” Conway began. “Peter Strzok and his co-sexter-texter Lisa Page and the whole lot of them at the upper echelon of the FBI” who misrepresented the vast majority of rank-and-file agents and employees weren’t just conducting a harmless counterintelligence investigation to see if there was any connection between the Trump campaign and Russia.”

They “continued dong that bidding after President Trump was elected and into our first days in the White House,” she said.

“Look, if Peter Strzok had something important to say about General Flynn — let’s consider that he thought he was an existential threat, a real national security threat — he could have come forward and said that.

“That isn’t the purpose of this inquisition of Michael Flynn,” Conway went on. “You see the notes, you see them saying, ‘Don’t end Crossfire Razor (the codename the FBI gave Flynn), keep it going.’ Why? To harass and embarrass a general who had served with distinction for over three decades.”

“I would remind everybody that President Obama told President-elect Trump he had two things to worry about: North Korea and Michael Flynn. Folks, that’s just weird on its face. You gotta worry about a nuclear-capable dictator in North Korea, and you gotta worry about a general of 37 years who served in my, the Obama administration.

“People should look at this for what it is,” she added.

Though Obama’s name is rarely mentioned as being associated with a spying operation against a rival presidential campaign during his tenure, Conway isn’t the first to do so.

On May 24, investigative reporter Paul Sperry tweeted: “Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer said ‘I guarantee the answer is yes’ to whether Obama knew Halper & others were deployed to spy on Trump campaign. Fleischer explained that no FBI director would put informants inside a presidential campaign w/o the prez authorizing it.”

Halper is a reference to Stefan Halper, an American foreign policy scholar and Senior Fellow at the University of Cambridge believed to have been used by the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community to attempt to infiltrate the Trump campaign and get members to implicate that Trump was colluding with Moscow.

About the same time, a reporter asked President Trump if he believed Obama would have been aware of the operation, and he indicated it’s likely. “Would he know? I would certainly hope not. But I think it’s going to be pretty obvious after a while,” said Trump.

In March 2019, Fleischer added in a tweet, “Now that Mueller says there was no collusion, it is time to scrutinize the Obama Administration.  They spied on a US campaign, wiretapped Americans, bit on the dossier and unmasked Flynn. What did Barack Obama know and what and when did he authorize it?”

And speaking of Strzok and Page, in a Sept. 2, 2016, text to Strzok about preparing talking points for then-FBI Director James Comey to give to President Obama, Page said it was important to do so because “potus wants to know everything we’re doing.”
