If there is a resounding theme around the set up of retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn it may be that if politically-motivated government officials can set up a three-star general serving as the White House national security adviser, the average Joe doesn’t stand a chance.

As egregious as events may be, Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel laid out the details in a manner sure to get the blood boiling of fair-minded Americans.

Bombshell documents unsealed this week revealed that the goal of top FBI officials in interviewing Flynn in 2017 was to “get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired.”

The documents included a handwritten note showing agents wanted to get Flynn to “admit breaking the Logan Act,” an arcane federal law that restricts communication between private citizens and foreign governments.

In a series of tweets, Strassel detailed the outrageous actions of FBI officials involved in setting up Flynn and effectively destroying his life and storied career in service to his country.

Bureau officials that included the Trump-hating FBI lovebirds Peter Strzok and Lisa Page — Strzok was fired after his extramarital affair with Page was exposed.

“To really understand how outrageous are these new Flynn docs, you have to add to everything we already know. And key is remembering that the FBI had no REASON to interview Flynn. It already had transcripts of his conversations with Kislyak,” Strassel began.

The conservative columnist points out that the new documents show that the FBI had already cleared Flynn of “ludicrous claims” he was agent of Russia and was moving to close its investigation on him, before the Justice Department “cooked up the absurd Logan Act claim.”

But even there, Strassel observed, they “knew such ridiculousness would never fly.”

Their answer was to “trap him into saying something at odds” with the transcript, Strassel noted, to “get him to lie,” as the note on the document stated.

A strategy that disgraced former FBI director James Comey was involved in, as she laid out.

Strassel then detailed the cast of characters, aka “dirty cops,” who acted deceptively to keep Flynn unsuspecting of the trap being laid.

Flynn pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the United States, but filed papers in January to officially withdraw his guilty plea after prosecutors indicated they’d no longer pursue a lenient sentence.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that the new documents exonerate Flynn

“They tormented him – dirty cops tormented Gen. Flynn,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “If you look at those notes from yesterday, that was total exoneration.”

The president indicated that a presidential pardon may be forthcoming, if charges are not dropped.

Taking to Twitter, he declared: “What happened to General Michael Flynn, a war hero, should never be allowed to happen to a citizen of the United States again!”

Unfortunately, there’s little accountability in Washington, DC. While an investigation of the investigators in ongoing, being led by U.S. Attorney John Durham, to include a review of the origins of the FBI investigation of Trump, it remains to be seen if anyone is charged for all the scandalous actions that have been exposed.

Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter that show Americans want to see justice served here:
