U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her “cowardice” in keeping House members from returning to work back in Washington, D.C.
The Texas Republican called out Pelosi’s lack of leadership during a Fox News interview, blasting her refusal to get Congress back in session during the coronavirus pandemic.

The former Navy SEAL responded to the latest decision to postpone a return to work for members of the House of Representatives, which was originally scheduled for next week. Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced Tuesday that, upon advice from the House physician, it was deemed safer to keep members away even though the Senate will be returning to session.
“We’ve made a judgment that we will not come back next week, but that we hope to come back very soon,” Hoyer said at a news conference, adding that they decided “we ought to listen to the medical authorities because we have urged that to be the case for everybody, and so that is what we are doing.”
Crenshaw minced no words when asked about the move on Thursday.
“Cowardice. Cowardice is the only way to describe that,” told “Fox & Friends.”
“This is more than just about accountability. Let me remind everybody, if we got paid hourly in Congress, you bet Nancy Pelosi would be there. You bet they’d be there,” he added.
“Now here’s the thing. This is about leadership. This is about leading on the front lines along with the American people who are also on the front lines. Nurses, doctors, people still working in grocery stores, working our supply chains, people trying to grow food and raise cattle and watching their food production plummet,” Crenshaw said.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy also called out Democrats on Tuesday during a Fox News interview on “The Ingraham Angle.”
“I think the American people deserve leaders who will work day in and day out for them,” the California Republican said, adding that he had sent Pelosi a letter with suggestions on how to safely keep Congress open.
Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio also called for members to return to Washington, pointing to several states planning to reopen after being shut down.
“Farmers are planting crops, truckers are moving goods, grocers are stocking shelves, and front-line healthcare workers have never stopped working. They’ve been working every single day throughout this crisis but, somehow, the U.S. Congress can’t come back to work,” he told “America’s Newsroom.”

Crenshaw echoed the sentiment on Thursday.
“People are having real problems but people are trying and they’re fighting on the front lines. They’re risk-mitigating, they’re being smart, but they’re still engaging in life. Why can’t Congress do the same?” he said.
“It’s about leadership. It’s about demonstrating to the American people we’re not scared and spineless,” he continued.
“Just for once, I wish we would actually demonstrate that. There is no problem going in and debating. You can exert the same kind of risk mitigation measures that everybody else across America is doing and yet Nancy Pelosi refuses to do that,” the Texas lawmaker said.
“The Senate is going back to work and thank God we have them doing that. The House needs to do the same,” he added. “This is cowardly to the core. I honestly can’t believe it. This is such a lack of leadership.”
