Fox News Contributor Lisa Boothe targeted the media and pushed back on the excuses being made for not reopening the nation’s economy due to continuing fears over the coronavirus pandemic.
The political commentator and Republican strategist spoke with Fox News host Steve Hilton on Sunday about the economic impact the COVID-19 crisis is having in the U.S. and nailed the liberal media for being the “biggest barrier” to getting over nationwide shutdowns.

Hilton asked Boothe about the “group think” that the “only way we can reopen is widespread testing, isolating and contact tracing,” noting that the view seems to be “really solidly in place now.”
Earlier in his monologue on “The Next Revolution,” Hilton had slammed the mainstream media for “endlessly repeating misinformation to make America look bad” and the “ideology” that continues to scare people into staying home.
“I think, as you laid out, the biggest barrier we have to reopening is the media,” Boothe agreed on Sunday.
“They are the ones that are driving hysteria around the coronavirus,” she said, noting that there has been “an omission or a downplay about positive data points, positive information that could potentially lead to the reopening.”
“We’ve also seen zero interest in the media for questioning, are these policies even the right ones we should be making. Should we be shutting down right now. What are the consequences of that. Has it led to a positive effect or not. Where would we be if we didn’t shut down,” Boothe added.
“They’re not raising these kinds of critical questions which I find troubling,” she told Hilton, adding that she has also seen “a distortion of the facts” as the media has repeatedly misquoted or misrepresented President Trump and even attacked him for “being hopeful” about the effectiveness of Hydroxychloroquine in treating the virus.
“We’ve even seen a tremendous amount of bias going after Governor Kemp for reopening Georgia’s economy while ignoring the fact Governor Polis, a liberal Democrat in Colorado, is opening retail May 1,” Boothe added. “The media is a big obstacle in trying to reopen the economy and get the actual truth out there to the American people.”
Georgia’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp came under fire for allegedly risking the lives of residents by allowing gyms, barber shops, hair salons, tattoo parlors and bowling alleys to reopen on Friday. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, has also lifted lockdowns and allowed some businesses, such as salons, to reopen, though gyms and clubs will remain closed.
Hilton slammed the misinformation earlier in his show Sunday, accusing government leaders of being too busy threatening the Constitutional rights of Americans instead of pushing forward on scientific findings.

“MSNBC had a two-hour special entirely based on this misinformation. It was literally called ‘Testing and the Road to Reopening,'” he noted, adding that the “absurdity rises to a level of grave danger if you’re making this a condition for reopening, knowing that every day you delay will kill more Americans.”
Addressing Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of President Trump’s coronavirus task force, Hilton argued that “if we protect the vulnerable, we don’t need the costly, complicated technocratic nightmare of testing and contact tracing,” adding that most Americans – who are scared to go out even if states do reopen – have “nothing to fear from coronavirus that there is no scientific basis as long as we properly protect the vulnerable for the shutdown.”
“The mindset of the shutdown zealots is the opposite of science. Instead of adapting their thinking in the light of new information, they cling to their old position despite new information,” the Fox News host said. “It’s not science, is ideology. It’s not based on data but dogma.”
