OANN’s Liz Wheeler makes the case to end lockdown for those who care about ‘science and data’

On Tuesday, One America News Network contributor Liz Wheeler made the case for why local and state governments ought to promptly end their coronavirus lockdowns.

But instead of making the case using ragebait or reality-TV-grade gimmicks, as some in the mainstream establishment media have taken to doing, Wheeler posited her argument by trotting out scientific data and indisputable facts.

Watch:

The key facts she highlighted are listed below in order:

Coronavirus intra-family risk is high …

“The risk of COVID-19 transmission intra-family is high … according to German epidemiologist Prof. Hendrik Streeck, who found that the risk of contracting COVID-19 is highest among your own family,” Wheeler said.

This is true.

“There is no significant risk of catching the disease when you go shopping. Severe outbreaks of the infection were always a result of people being closer together over a longer period of time,” Streeck, who serves as the director of the Institute of Virology and HIV Research at the University Bonn, said earlier this month.

A study out of China similarly found that “about 80 percent of the outbreaks were exclusively intrafamilial – while only 8 percent of transmissions involved outsiders,” as reported by Conservative Review.

“Of the 318 outbreaks, 129 involved only family members, 133 involved family relatives, 29 involved socially connected individuals, 24 involved socially non-connected individuals, and only 3 involved multiple relationships.”

Coronavirus risk via casual contact is low …

“COVID-19 transmission risk via casual contact is low … according to the Taiwan CDC, who tracked the contacts of 32 infected people and found zero transmission of the virus outside people’s homes and family members,” Wheeler continued.

This is also true.

“A study last month from Taiwan’s CDC tracing 1,043 contacts of 32 COVID-19 patients found that not a single transmission occurred outside those in their households or families,” Conservative Review notes. “According to our CDC, data from Japan shows transmission of the virus is 18.7 times greater indoors than outdoors.”

Coronavirus risk among the elderly is exacerbated by lockdown …

“The risk of elderly people contracting the virus is higher because of the lockdowns … according to a New York physician who teaches at an Ivy League institution,” Wheeler added.

The reason for this is “because the lockdowns don’t stop transmission — they just slow it down temporarily, and therefore the longer it takes to build herd immunity the more at-risk people are at risk.”

It’s believed Wheeler had been referencing Dr. Knut M. Wittkowski, PhD, ScD, who headed the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Research Design at Rockefeller University for 20 years.

“[W]e will see more cases among the elderly because we have prevented the school children from creating herd immunity,” he said recently in an interview.

“And so in the end we will see more death, because it’s the school children that don’t die it’s the elderly that die so we will see more death because of this social distancing.”

Coronavirus project models were wrong …

This one is self-explanatory.

Most hospitals aren’t overwhelmed …

“Our hospitals aren’t overwhelmed and forced to deny care to COVID patients,” Wheeler added.

In fact, some are so underwhelmed because of government regulations that they’ve been forced to shutter.

“[T]he only hospitals shutting down or closing are because they don’t have any patients because government officials have prohibited so-called non-essential surgeries and procedures,” she said.

Also true.

Sunlight kills the coronavirus …

“Preliminary results from government lab experiments show that the coronavirus does not survive long in high temperatures and high humidity, and is quickly destroyed by sunlight, providing evidence from controlled tests of what scientists believed — but had not yet proved — to be true,” Yahoo News reported last week.

Coronavirus infection rates are higher than reported …

“The prevalence of COVID-19 in the population is higher than originally assumed, and therefore the infection fatality rate is much lower — and the hospitalization rate is lower too,” Wheeler said.

As evidence, she cited multiple studies from across the country and world, including one from California, two from Massachusetts, one from New York and one from Italy.

Though to be clear, new studies have already emerged since she posited her argument:

If all these facts are true — and they are — “then how can politicians imposing the lockdowns on us justify the lockdowns and pretend to care about science?” Wheeler asked. “If you care about science and the data, then the lockdowns are insane and the data shows it.
