Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino said a friend of his committed suicide after losing his job due to the nationwide coronavirus shutdowns.

Bongino shared the tragic news on Twitter: “Just found out that a friend of mine I knew from the neighborhood hung himself after being let go from his job. But yes, you stupid bastards telling us all to ‘shut it all down or people will die,’ keep lecturing us from your faux high-ground. Pardon my language but F**K YOU.”

Bongino was barraged with heartfelt condolences from his Twitter followers. Among them was Dr. Nicole Saphier, a physician who’s a Fox News medical analyst.

Saphier pointed out that as unemployment soars to record highs due to mass shutdowns, there will be an accompanying surge in suicides.

“If unemployment hits 32%, about 77,000 Americans may die as a result,” Dr. Saphier tweeted. “Will economic fallout mortality be greater than the virus itself?”

Numerous studies show that prolonged unemployment fuels spikes in suicides, depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, divorce, and crimes.

This is part of the reason why many Republicans — including President Donald Trump — are calling for a gradual reopening of the economy in phases, depending on the severity of coronavirus infections.

Before the panic-induced mass shutdowns, the U.S. economy was the hottest in history, with record-low unemployment for all groups, including black Americans, Hispanics, and Asian-Americans.

Bongino, a bestselling author and father of two, says it’s important for America to reopen — both for economic reasons and for psychological well-being.

“I have a family and I have two children myself,” he said. “I have a mother-in-law and two parents that are still alive that obviously I care deeply about. My mother herself is in an extremely high-risk category. If she were to contract this, it could be deadly. But I have to feed my kids, too. So does everybody around me.”

Bongino said Democrats like millionaire Nancy Pelosi can afford to screech that everyone should remain locked down indefinitely because she hasn’t missed a taxpayer-funded paycheck in decades.

Dan Bongino said he has a message for Pelosi: “Get out of your bubble! People have to feed their kids!”

“Let me enlighten you, Nancy, because you seem to be living in an insulated $25,000 freezer ice cream bubble and you don’t get it,” Bongino said. “People have to feed their families. These are smart Americans who are intelligent. They understand there’s a risk. They live with risk every day.”

“If you need to understand that, Nancy, go talk to a construction worker on a construction site down the block that is living with multimillion-dollar equipment that could kill him in a minute.

If you tell him or her on that site, ‘You’re going to need to wear a mask. There are precautions. You may have to wear some kind of hand protection, wash our hands often and we may have to distance, but you will be able to go to work and feed your kids.’

I promise you the entrepreneurial brave American citizens will figure it the hell out.”

Bongino says the coronavirus is a serious health crisis and everyone should take proper precautions. However, that doesn’t mean that the United States should remain in an indefinite shutdown as millions lose their jobs and businesses go bankrupt.

“These people [Michigan Governor] Gretchen Whitmer and others…They work for us,” Bongino said. “Get the hell out of our way! [Government officials] are supposed to make our lives easier, not more difficult.”

Bongino said lawmakers should trust that Americans can take proper safety precautions and still return to work so they can feed their families.

“We’re not children; we’re adults!” Bongino said. “We’ve lived much harder lives than these people who are governing us. It’s a joke the way they talk [down] to people!”
