Actor and comedian Patton Oswalt learned the hard way over the weekend that it’s not a good idea to joust with Greg Gutfeld online.

Nothing scares the left more than the idea of free will, and Oswalt was among those pushing back against a growing wave of protests around the country by Americans not accustomed to sitting on their backsides collecting government handouts calling for a re-opening of our economy.

In a tweet that went viral, Oswalt cited the experiences of Anne Frank, a Jewish child victim of the Holocaust, to mock those who make their living at more menial jobs.

“Anne Frank spent 2 years hiding in an attic and we’ve been home for just over a month with Netflix, food delivery & video games and there are people risking viral death by storming state capital buildings & screaming, ‘Open Fuddruckers!’” Oswalt tweeted.

His effort being a furtherance of a belief that the left wants to keep the economy shut down as long as possible — despite the cost on average Americans — in the hope that it will hurt President Trump’s reelection chances.

Gutfeld summed it up thusly: “[R]ich fat guy sitting on a mountain of cash tells you jackasses to suck it up.”

Much like government officials still receiving their taxpayer-funded paychecks who are making the decisions, affluent liberals like Oswalt aren’t hurting if the shutdown drags out another six months.

And while he should have left well enough alone, Oswalt came back at Gutfeld.

He tweeted: “Even richer ass-faced failed comedian who’s reduced to being the ‘wacky guy’ on geriatric GOP propaganda network would like to explain the nuance of ‘ironic swastikas’ to you.”

The rebuttal pushed Gutfeld from casual observation mode to ‘Death Star’ mode, as he pontificates on Oswalt’s choice of dining facilities.

This prompted yet another Oswalt counter: “Jeeeeezus. Lookit the 80s-style comedy deflection from a clip we ALL WATCHED, Greg. You’re what would happen if a boat act worked at INGSOC. Go yell at an intern for not bringing your fruit gummies quick enough.”

But there’s a curious trend to Oswalt’s replies — instead of replying to Gutfeld, he is posting a screenshot of the Fox News host’s tweets.

In a not-so-nice manner Chris Barron points out why: “The reason he isn’t actually quote tweeting @greggutfeld is because he is a nut less wonder who knows he would get ratiod.”

Gutfeld continued to dissect Oswalt, as an entertained online world looked on.

“[S]o, this is what it’s like when a comedian is working without writers? Christ.” he tweeted. “Patton, [I]’m still trying to figure out why you disagree with my distaste for using swastikas at protests. please explain (in-between gorging on chocolate chip cookie dough on the toilet).”

To get a feel for how closed-off Oswalt is in his elitist liberal bubble, he retweeted a tweet from his brother comparing him to late legendary comic George Carlin.

Here a just a few responses to the brouhaha from Twitter:
