Journalist and television host Christiane Amanpour set herself up for fiery backlash after her ridiculous take on President Trump’s decision to defund the WHO.
The CNN anchor was slammed on social media when she took a shot the president, comparing his move to suspend the Unites States’ funding of the World Health Organization to “pulling the plug” on first responders on September 11.

“Defunding @WHO in the middle of a pandemic is like pulling the plug on firefighters in the aftermath of 9/11,” Amanpour tweeted Wednesday.
Trump announced Tuesday that he was halting funding to the United Nations agency in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and as it has come increasingly under fire for its initial mishandling of the outbreak which began in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

“With the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have deep concerns whether America’s generosity has been put to the best use possible,” Trump said during the coronavirus press briefing at the White House.
“This is an evaluation period,” Trump said. “I am instructing my administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus.”
“We have an investigation underway and we will find out what exactly went on,” he added.

Taiwan this week accused the World Health Organization of pandering to China while ignoring the threat of person-to-person spread of the coronavirus months ago, releasing an email from December that was ignored by the agency.
The uproar over Trump’s decision echoed internationally as the European Union and others, as well as Democrats in the U.S., condemned the move.
“During the worst public health crisis in a century, halting funding to the World Health Organization is a dangerous step in the wrong direction that will not make defeating COVID-19 easier,” American Medical Association President Patrice A. Harris said in a statement.
Amanpour joined the pile up, blasting Trump for the move and its timing. But her unfortunate take involving 9/11 firefighters unleashed a torrent of rebukes from Twitter users.
