Trump destroys Jim Acosta for callously calling daily briefings ‘happy talk’

President Donald Trump fired back at CNN opinion reporter Jim Acosta after he callously characterized the daily White House coronavirus briefings as “happy talk.”

Trump blasted the showboating Acosta for once again trying to hijack a press briefing to make himself the focal point of the event. Acosta has done this countless times before, but to do it during a national health crisis is mind-boggling.

Trump said Acosta’s tone-deaf dismissal of the coronavirus briefings as “happy talk” was a slap in the face to the countless people working nonstop to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Mr. President, we hear from a lot of people who see these briefings as sort of ‘happy talk’ briefings,” Acosta said. “Some of the officials paint a rosy picture of what is happening around the country. If you look at some of these questions — do we have enough masks? No. Do we have enough tests? No. Do we have enough PPE [personal protective equipment]? No.”

President Trump replied: “I think the answer is yes. Who said no to that?”

Trump said Acosta’s claims are false because the federal government, the private sector, and state governors have all been working around-the-clock to get ventilators for patients and to ramp up testing.

The nationwide efforts also include countless doctors, nurses, and first responders who risk their lives every day to save their fellow Americans while media hyenas like Jim Acosta sit safely in a press room and play Monday-morning quarterback.

“This is not ‘happy talk.’ Maybe it’s ‘happy talk’ for you, but it’s not ‘happy talk’ for me,” Trump told Acosta. “We’re talking about death. We’re talking about the greatest economy in the world — and one day I have to close it off. We did the right thing because maybe it would’ve been 2 million people dying instead of whatever that final number will be. There’s nothing happy about it, Jim. This is sad talk.”

President Trump continued: “Thousands of people have died. These are the saddest news conferences that I’ve ever had. You know why? Because I’m talking about death…That’s not a fair question. When you ask a question like that, it’s very insulting to a lot of great people.”

For the past two months, the left-wing media have attacked Trump because he has a hopeful vision for America’s future. This contrasts sharply with their daily shrieks that “we’re all gonna die” because Trump is in office.

It is the job of the President to calm a panicked nation by reassuring Americans that we will overcome this crisis — just like we weathered other disasters over the course of our 243-year history.

The coronavirus outbreak is a serious crisis. But it won’t last forever, even though the media appear to be rooting for it to last until the November election.

President Trump’s optimism that the United States will ultimately prevail over COVID-19 is justified because the epidemic will end at some point.

To underscore that terrorizing your audience by peddling doom-and-gloom around the clock is not a good business model, mass layoffs are crushing the media industry.

Since the coronavirus shutdowns began, 28,000 workers at news companies around the country have been laid off, furloughed, or had their pay reduced.  Middle America is probably thinking: Now you feel our pain.
