Former President Barack Obama is not letting the coronavirus crisis go to waste and joined in with Democrats pushing for a vote-by-mail election in November.
Commenting on a link to a New York Times story in defense of the voting by mail option, Obama urged his 115.5 million Twitter followers to “check the facts” on the issue being touted by Democrats as the only solution to voting in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Let’s not use the tragedy of a pandemic to compromise our democracy,” Obama tweeted, using the “tragedy of the pandemic” to push the Democrat scheme which will essentially legalize ballot harvesting.
With the election still months away, and the latest coronavirus projections showing some light at the end of the tunnel, Democrats have been focusing energy on changing the nation’s voting methods by securing a national vote by mail option for Americans.

“Everyone should have the right to vote safely, and we have the power to make that happen. This shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Obama wrote in another tweet linking to an NPR article headlined, “Coronavirus May Reshape Who Votes And How In The 2020 Election.”

The former president also expressed his frustration over the “debacle in Wisconsin,” referring to voting that took place in that state this week despite concerns over the pandemic.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have also been pushing the vote-by-mail argument, citing worries about spreading the COVID-19 virus months from now. The House attempted to push through a version of the coronavirus stimulus bill last month which would have included $4 billion in state funding to help move the process along in making changes to election procedures such as making voting by mail an option for all registered voters and expanding early voting.
President Trump and many leading Republicans have expressed adamant opposition to the idea, noting the potential for fraud.
“I think a lot of people cheat with mail-in voting,” the president said last week. “I think people should vote with ID, with Voter ID.”
“And the reason they don’t want voter ID is because they intend to cheat. When you buy something you look at your cards and credit cards and you have your picture on many of them. Not all of them but many of them. You should have a picture for voting. It should be called voter ID. And it shouldn’t be mail-in,” he said in response to a question from ABC News reporter Jon Karl.

He also urged Republicans to “fight very hard” against the efforts in a tweet this week, warning that it “doesn’t work out well for” the GOP.

The vote-by-mail “abuse” would “blow up clean elections in November,” warned Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton.
“The Pelosi/Clinton scheme would result in sending ballots to zombie voters, the end of voter id, and wide scale voter intimidation,” he tweeted, linking to his interview on the issue with Fox News host Tucker Carlson this week.

Fitton contended that Democrats are supporting the idea because they want to “set up a system that makes sit easy to steal elections” by overturning voter ID laws already in place in 35 states which currently allow voting by absentee ballots.
Meanwhile, Obama’s jump onto the vote-by-mail bandwagon was met with animated responses on Twitter.
