Conservative activist and commentator Candace Owens demanded that Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont resign after allegedly lying about an infant dying of the coronavirus.
Owens called out the Democratic governor over the headline-making story of the first baby to allegedly die from COVID-19, revealing in a video that she had information proving the cause of death was not linked to the pandemic.

Citing “political doublespeak” by the governor when announcing that the death of the infant was “linked to COVID-19,” Owens said she instinctively knew there was something not right about the report.
“This is absolutely heartbreaking. We believe this is one of the youngest lives lost anywhere due to complications relating to COVID-19,” Lamont tweeted earlier in the week.

“I’ve spent a lot of time trying to tell you that almost all the fatalities are related to people who are over 70 and over 80, but we have a tragic milestone in Connecticut,” Lamont said at a press briefing on Wednesday. “Probably the youngest person ever to die of COVID has died here in Connecticut. That baby was less than 7 weeks old, and it just is a reminder that nobody is safe from this virus.”
The baby arrived unresponsive at a Hartford area hospital and, though the cause of death was unknown when Lamont reacted, the infant reportedly tested positive during a postmortem exam for the virus, which has not normally been seen in otherwise healthy children.
Owens expressed her anger over the reporting of the death, noting in her video that she is a Connecticut resident and that two of her sisters, also residing in the state, recently gave birth. She called out Lamont’s remarks as an “outright lie,” stating that the death of the baby was “a tragic accident” that happened in the home.
“The death of the infant in Connecticut had nothing to do with COVID-19. I know exactly how the infant died. I know this because people that were involved were mortified and angry, and they were so happy that I spoke out and called out this double-speak. These people reached out to me, not the mother and the father,” Owens said, adding that their account of what happened “completely checks out.”
“I think Governor Ned Lamont should have to step down,” Owens added.
“The post mortem, after this infant had already succumbed, they tested this infant for COVID-19. God knows why,” she said. “Because as I have been trying to shout to you all, it does not matter how you die, they will test you for COVID-19. Then they will use the exact same language that Ned Lamont used: ‘a death linked to COVID-19,’ knowing fully well that the manner in which that infant died had nothing to do with coronavirus.”
She accused the governor of making the statement even though he was “privy” to the correct information about the reason the baby died, setting off a panic. Calling him out as a “disgusting, immoral scumbag,” Owens claimed the lawmaker intentionally lied to scare the Trump administration “into giving him more money.”
“How many more deaths that we are seeing are deaths like this?” Owens asked, pointing to the inaccuracy of figures being “manipulated” to create fear, and demanding to know why journalists are only publishing what politicians tell them.
Two days after the press briefing in which Lamont directly linked the infant’s death to COVID-19, he appeared to retreat somewhat.
“We have our role. We have our job. The medical examiner has his job,” Connecticut State Epidemiologist Matthew Carter said on Friday. “They’re very separate, and we count different things.”
“But we do know that that little baby tested positive,” Lamont added.

Owens has called out other examples of deaths being reported as related to the coronavirus which have subsequently proved otherwise.
