Former ESPN host Jemele Hill displayed the ugly side of hatred toward President Donald Trump by taking a shot at a charitable act by one of his friends.
The Atlantic contributor and vocal Trump critic leveled a small-minded jab at New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft because of his relationship with the president, despite his recent move to use the team’s jet to fly more than one million N95 masks into the U.S. from China.
The New England Patriots private plane was flown into China to secure about 1.7 million masks for health care workers on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak and returned to Massachusetts where most of the supply will be distributed.

Kraft reportedly personally purchased 300,000 masks which he planned to give to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for that state’s battle against COVID-19, according to the Boston Globe.
“The Krafts were terrific. They were a phone call away, and immediately went to work on the logistics associated with this, and did not stop until they could make it happen,” Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said, referring to Kraft and his son, Jonathan Kraft who is president of both the Patriots and the Kraft Group while also serving as the chairman of the board at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Despite the gratitude to the NFL team owner, Hill took the opportunity to condemn his association with Trump.
“This is where I remind people that Robert Kraft is friends with Donald Trump and gave to his campaign. It’s incredible the Kraft family is doing this, but hope they understand their money helped empower their friend,” she tweeted.

The backlash against Hill was immediate and to the point, slamming her for taking cheap political shots while the nation is facing a crisis.
This is where I remind Jemele that even Robert Kraft is a human being, and it is in humanity’s interest to defeat this virus, and that the injection of politics into defeating this virus helps defeat the effort. https://t.co/ILC32nsrOd

This is where I remind people Jemele Hill got fired from ESPN for her opinions on politics. 👍🏿

This is where people should remind you that at this point in time who give a flying f—? Blame can be assigned later, the focus now is getting the materials needed to the people who need it. I don’t care if it’s a Trump fan or Bernie Bro, if they help people stay safe now? 👍

“Robert Kraft doing this will literally save lives. You saw this beautiful act as an opportunity for you to attack him for supporting the President of the United States. That says a hell of a lot more about you than you realize (and not in a good way). Really vile thing to do,” director and producer Robby Starbuck wrote, calling out her “vile” act in another tweet.

Hill stood her ground and responded to some of her critics on Twitter.
Yes it is necessary. If we don’t critically think about how we got here, we will be back here again.
— Jemele Hill (@jemelehill) April 2, 2020
If you consider facts divisive, oh well. But maybe these owners and billionaires need to better understand that just as their money can do a good deed, it can cause also cause irreparable damage.
— Jemele Hill (@jemelehill) April 2, 2020
It’s not about blame is about consequences. And we always say “later” and guess what? Later never comes. We say that with school shootings, too. And how we doing with that one, champ?
— Jemele Hill (@jemelehill) April 2, 2020
Nowhere did I say he shouldn’t do it. Nowhere did I say the gesture wasn’t needed. Politics aren’t a game. Bad policies ruins lives. Bad leadership, as we’ve seen, literally kills people.
— Jemele Hill (@jemelehill) April 2, 2020
I’ve done my share and I don’t feel the need to broadcast. I believe Kraft is being genuine. But I also know billionaires would prefer charitable giving to challenging systems of inequity and inequality.

Despite her attempts to justify her stand, Hill continued to be blasted on social media, even by those who were not fans of the president.
Listen, I’m an Eagles fan that lives in New England. I probably despise the Pats more than most. Also not a Trump fan.
But…I AM A NURSE who is extremely thankful and appreciative for this.
This is bigger than politics. Take that from someone on the front line, please.— Gina Marie (@Gina_Marie215) April 2, 2020
You’ve done absolutely nothing to contribute.

But hey, all that matters is she made this story about herself. Maybe she’ll land another endorsement out of this.

If Mother Teresa had given money to Trump’s election campaign, calls for her canonization to be revoked would come from Jemele Hill and her ilk.
