Gunmaker Remington Arms has stepped up to help coronavirus epicenter New York combat the contagion. Remington CEO Ken D’Arcy offered to manufacture ventilators, medical masks, and hospital beds to help the disease-infested state.
D’Arcy made the offer in a letter to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and President Donald Trump, where he also agreed to provide “approximately one million square feet of unused and available manufacturing space” at Remington’s plant in Ilion, New York.
D’Arcy said Remington Arms would be honored to manufacture ventilators, surgical masks, hospital beds, and any other supplies to help combat the coronavirus pandemic.
Of course, the irony is that anti-Second Amendment lawmakers in liberal New York are getting aid from the very people they’ve been trying to put out of business for years.
Remington will also continue to make firearms, pursuant to new guidance from the Department of Homeland Security, which designated gun companies “essential” businesses amid the coronavirus panic.
As of today, New York State (population: 19.4 million) has 52,318 cases of the coronavirus and 728 deaths since January.
The state’s Democrat governor Andrew Cuomo has repeatedly complained about a lack of ventilators. Cuomo said New York State has 7,000 ventilators, but needs an additional 30,000 for an anticipated surge of patients.
After repeatedly whining that President Trump has not sent ventilators to New York State, Cuomo later admitted that he’s hoarding ventilators and is stockpiling thousands of them for an emergency.
Earth to Fredo’s brother: The emergency is already here, so what is he waiting for? More importantly, why is he complaining about a lack of supplies when other states also need ventilators for their own coronavirus crises?
All the states are competing for the same federal supplies.

Governor Cuomo sheepishly admitted that thousands of ventilators were being stockpiled in New York because they’re not needed at the moment.
“Yes, they’re in a stockpile. Because that’s where they are supposed to be because we don’t need them yet,” Cuomo admitted at a press conference. “We need them for the apex. The apex is not here. So we are gathering them in the stockpile so when we need them, they’ll be there. We don’t need them today because we are not at capacity today. That’s why they are not deployed, because they are not needed.”
Reminder: NYC’s leftist mayor Bill de Blasio told New Yorkers on February 10 that coronavirus was no worse than the common cold.

As for medical masks, the current shortage is because the Obama administration ignored advice to replenish a national stockpile after depleting it in 2009 after the swine flu epidemic.
“After the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009 — which triggered a nationwide shortage of masks and caused a 2- to 3-year backlog [of] orders for the N95 variety –the stockpile distributed about three-quarters of its inventory and didn’t build back the supply,” Bloomberg News reported.
“Some doctors are taking the N95 masks home to wash them with bleach so they can be reused. One hospital ordered protective equipment from a company that supplies goggles and masks to construction workers. One emergency department restitched old surgical masks, where the elastic bands had failed.
“These aren’t normal times,” said Vivian Reyes, an emergency room doctor in San Francisco and president of the California chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. “Our supply chain has been stunted. We’re not getting new supplies and our stores are almost depleted.”
