Rush Limbaugh weighed in on the coronavirus pandemic and came to the defense of President Trump over his handling of the crisis.
The conservative radio icon spoke on “The Rush Limbaugh Show” Friday, which has been guest-hosted by others while he has been undergoing cancer treatments, and updated his audience on his health as well as defended Trump against criticism.

“It’s a fascinating case study to me, and it’s worrisome and it’s troublesome. And then the other side of it is, through all of this, I’ve never had any doubt we’re going to come out of it. I’ve never had any doubt we’re going to come out of it stronger, and we’re going to come out of it healthy,” he said, reassuring listeners on the global pandemic which has infected over 600,000 people worldwide.
“And I think it’s imperative that we have somebody like Donald Trump, who is outside the establishment, expert class, who has a history of solving problems, to actually lead the country through this,” he added.
Limbaugh responded to criticism being leveled at the president for not heeding the advice of medical experts, including even those in his own administration.
While Trump has indicated that he would like the country to be back in business by Easter, many professionals have been opposed to lifting restrictions and have called for a nationwide lockdown to prevent the continued spread of COVID-19.
Former Vice President Joe Biden joined the cacophony of critics, telling CNN earlier this week that the president should “stop talking and start listening to the medical experts.”
“He’s not responsible for the coronavirus, but he’s responsible for the delay in taking the actions that need to be taken,” the 2020 Democratic candidate told Jake Tapper.
And on Friday, a coalition of more than 800,000 doctors across the nation signed a letter to Trump urging, “we need your leadership in supporting science-based recommendations on social distancing that can slow the virus.”
Limbaugh addressed the ongoing call for the president to heed the advice of the medical establishment, contending that Americans voted for Trump and not a “bunch of health experts.”
“You know, we’ve talked about the “Deep State” all these years since Trump was elected — the Trump-Russia collusion, the FBI — well, the Deep State extends very deeply,” he said Friday.
“And the American people did not elect a bunch of health experts that we don’t know. We didn’t elect a president to defer to a bunch of health experts that we don’t know,” Limbaugh continued.
“And how do we know they’re even health experts? Well, they wear white lab coats, and they’ve been in the job for a while, and they’re at the CDC and they’re at the NIH, and they’re up, well — yeah, they’ve been there, and they are there,” he said.
“But has there been any job assessment for them? They’re just assumed to be the best because they’re in government,” he said, adding that he has been “watching people routinely accept whatever the authorities say.”
