In another illustration of The Darwin Awards, an infectious-disease “expert” has tested positive for the coronavirus — weeks after traveling to China to study the contagious disease.

Dr. Ian Lipkin is the director of the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University in New York. Dr. Lipkin — who consulted on the 2011 pandemic movie “Contagion” — warned that “if it can hit me, it can hit anybody.”

Um, no kidding. Especially if you travel TO the epicenter of a highly-contagious disease at the height of a nationwide outbreak.

These are the medical “experts” that the left-wing media shriek that Americans should listen to while urging you to ignore President Trump.

Perhaps not coincidentally, New York City (where Lipkin returned to from China) is now the epicenter of the coronavirus in the United States.

“I would just like to say that this has become very personal for me too, because I have COVID as of yesterday,” Dr. Lipkin told Fox Business host David Asman. “If it can hit me, it can hit anybody.”

Shockingly, Dr. Ian Lipkin claims that he doesn’t know where he caught COVID-19 from — even though he was in CHINA just weeks ago.

“It doesn’t matter,” Lipkin stammered. “This virus can be found all over the United States. You can get it anywhere.”

Yes, you can get COVID-19 anywhere, especially if irresponsible people travel to the epicenter of an outbreak at the height of the contagion and then bring it back.

Lipkin said he’s hopeful that new research being conducted at Columbia University, Johns Hopkins and other medical facilities involving blood plasma drawn from patients who have recovered from the coronavirus could aid in the fight against the illness.

“We will be able to use lessons learned to developed other sort of pharmacological treatments based on what we’ve found,” Lipkin said. “This is something we’ve only begun to explore and we don’t know the optimal dose.”

Dr. Lipkin then said unironically with a straight face: “We really don’t know when we’re going to get this under control. It’s extraordinarily important that we harmonize whatever restrictions we have across the country because we have porous borders between states, between cities. And unless we’re consistent, we’re not going to get ahead of this thing.”

For some reason, it doesn’t occur to Lipkin that if people like him don’t stay home — as instructed by medical experts and lawmakers — we are never going to beat this virus.

Earlier this week, another nominee for the dubious Darwin Awards died after drinking toxic chemical fish-tank cleaner in the hope that it would prevent the coronavirus. The good news is, it worked. Why? Because death is a cure for the coronavirus.
