Fox News host Tucker Carlson said the coronavirus pandemic is unlike any crisis the United States has faced before. He said while it’s obviously essential for the government to halt activity to prevent the virus from spreading, it’s just as important to maintain economic stability.
Carlson warned viewers against the mass influx of “disinformation” being spouted by both the media and random, self-professed “experts” on social media. “There’s so much disinformation going around,” he lamented.
Tucker said it’s alarming that there’s no consensus on how to combat both the social and economic fallout of the coronavirus.
“People of good faith are working toward a couple of different goals, which at times collide with one another,” Carlson said. “Our first obligation, everyone agrees, is to keep our people safe. If we can prevent Americans from getting the coronavirus, we should do that.”
He continued:Â “At the same time, we need to protect our economy. And that is not just something that Wall Street cares about. Economic decline is dangerous for everyone, especially those at the bottom. It’s a legitimate human concern. It’s not just financial. It’s about families.”
Carlson said while it makes sense for businesses to close down and for people to self-isolate, the wide-ranging effects of all this will be harrowing.
“If you ask an epidemiologist what we ought to do next. The answer is simple: Shut it down. Close every public space until the virus passes,” Carlson said. “Hospitals would get a pass, of course. But restaurants, bars, hotels, movie theaters, airlines, everything from a public health standpoint that makes sense. But what would be the consequences of doing that? Millions and millions of people would lose their jobs — some of them for good.”

The Left and their media minions have been breathlessly rooting for a recession in the hopes that it’ll hurt President Trump’s chances for reelection. However, Carlson underscored that a recession would have a devastating, destabilizing impact on all our lives — not just the lower-income classes.
We know from history that mass poverty fuels alarming spikes in violent crime and a total breakdown in civilized society.
“We would have a severe recession with mass unemployment and it could get worse from there,” Tucker said. “You would see an awful lot of people in poverty. And that poses its own kind of public-health risk.”
He explained: “Poor countries are never healthy countries. If you want great healthcare, you’ve got to pay for it, and you’ve got to have money to do so. Responding to this epidemic requires balance.”
The Left has criticized President Trump for trying to stabilize the U.S. economy without realizing how important that actually is.
“The real imperative right now is saving jobs,” Tucker said. “For government bureaucrats, university administrators and corporate H.R. directors, and talk show hosts, a month out of the office constitutes a kind of vacation. But for the classes below, it could be the beginning of a long spiral — a real one.”

Carlson continued:Â “Waiters, bartenders, retail workers, huge parts of the service industry on which we are dependent — massive parts of our economy could see their income drop to zero and not come back.”
Imagine this scenario: The U.S. economy crashes, causing poverty and homelessness to spike dramatically. That would lead to a massive surge in crimes.
With the police unable to protect people, violent thugs would rule the streets. They would loot stores and hoard all the food and supplies.
There would be a total breakdown in law and order. “Civilized society” and the United States as we know it would cease to exist.
But leftists are cheering from their box homes on the streets as they rummage through trash for their next meal. At least Trump isn’t president, they crow.
Reminder: In June 2018, Trump-hater Bill Maher gleefully cheered for millions of Americans to lose their jobs.
“One way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy,” Maher barked. “So please, bring on the recession! Sorry if that hurts people.”
