Amid the serious nature of guidelines and warnings on the coronavirus pandemic, some have taken to social media to get the important messages across in a creative way.
Actor James Woods tipped his hat to the “pure gold” served up by legendary comedian Mel Brooks and his son, Max, in a funny but important message about social distancing, adding that the duo is “pretty good at serving their country as well.”

“If I get the coronavirus, I’ll probably be OK,” Max Brooks said in the short PSA, standing outside while his 93-year-old father joined him from behind the window of his home.
The younger Brooks went on to point out that, at 47-years-old, he would fare better against the illness than his father and his legendary friends who are in the age group deemed at a higher risk in the spread of COVID-19.
“But if I give it to him, he could give it to Carl Reiner, who could give it to Dick Van Dyke and before I know it, I’ve wiped out a whole generation of comedic legends,” Brooks, the author of “The Zombie Survival Guide” and “World War Z,” continued.
“When it comes to coronavirus, I have to think about who I can infect. And so should you,” he added, giving tips on good practices like social distancing to combat the spread of the virus.
“Do your part, don’t be a spreader,” he concluded as his father waved him off from behind the glass, telling him to “go home.”
The younger Brooks recently held a Reddit AMA to discuss the coronavirus and “why my fictional zombie book was banned by the very real government of China.”

“World War Z,” Brooks’ 2006 zombie apocalypse story, was adapted into a movie starring Brad Pitt in 2013 and was apparently banned in China.
“I was disappointed,” he shared during the discussion. “I mean, c’mon, a billion-plus reader market? But what am I gonna do? I can’t censor my own book, especially a book I wrote about censorship. I have to be true to what I wrote.”
“Unfortunately, too much of my book is coming true,” Brooks responded to another user. “I based the initial Chinese response to the zombie plague on their real response to SARS. Hopefully, the USA doesn’t respond to this crisis the way they did in WWZ.”
He felt that the world “has the ability to adapt,” when asked if a virus more dangerous than COVID-19 could be handled in the future.
“I’m not a pessimist. I can’t afford to be. I think about all the diseases that were around when my parents were my age. Back then (in the Twenties and Thirties), having pandemics regularly kill or cripple millions of people was just part of life. We’ve come such a long way,” Brooks noted.
“Even now, we’ve got armies, literally, of dedicated public health professionals fighting this world war,” he added. “We can do our part to help them. That’s why, in WWZ, there’s no one hero. Everyone has a role to play. Just like now. No matter what country you’re in, check in with your local public health department. Check in with WHO. Follow the guidelines. Do what you can, from social distancing to hygiene, to help slow the spread. This is so solvable, as long as we all do our part.”
