Not that she’ll give a damn, but acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Matthew Albence has joined a loud chorus of critics in bashing Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot for the role her policies played in allowing a 3-year-old girl to be sexually assaulted by an illegal alien.
One month after Lightfoot took office in May of 2019, Chicago authorities arrested illegal alien Christopher Puente, 34, for theft. Around that time, ICE submitted an immigration detainer for him. Thanks to Lightfoot’s policies, Chicago authorities ignored it and eventually let the illegal loose.
Eight months later, Puente was arrested again — this time for sexually assaulting a 3-year-old toddler.

In response to growing criticism, Lightfoot held a press conference late last month in which she proudly touted her decision to ignore ICE and made it clear she prioritizes the concerns of illegal alien thieves, rapists, killers and gang members over those of her own constituents.
“They’re critical because we have said very clearly we are a welcoming city, a sanctuary city. Chicago Police Department will not cooperate with ICE on any immigration-related business,” she said.
“And that’s affected their ability to conduct immigration raids across the city. But that’s exactly our intention. We have to make sure our police department is seen as a legitimate force in all our communities.”
She added that “if ICE is complaining, then they should do their job better.”
Responding to this stunning attack, Albence told Fox News in a statement this week that the mayor’s rhetoric is the “height of hypocrisy.”
“I can tell you, I’ve been firsthand trying to work with the city of Chicago for the better part of a decade to get them to cooperate with us so we can get criminals off the streets,” he said. “They’ve cut out our information sharing ability, they’ve cut off our ability to get individuals they have in custody turned over to us, they’ve cut us out of the gang database.”
“So for the mayor to sit there and say ICE should do its job better — we’d love to do our job better, but we depend on the cooperation of other law enforcement agencies, just like Chicago Police Department does.”
Yet just like their boss, the folks at the CPD have been just as dismissive in their response to criticism.
“The Chicago Police Department remains committed to protecting all Chicago residents regardless of their immigration status,” the department said in a statement to local station WLS.
“Our pledge to restrict ICE access to our information systems and our refusal to cooperate with ICE immigration enforcement measures has not changed.”
In other words, much like the mayor, the department is more interested in “protecting” illegal alien thieves, rapists, killers and gang members than in protecting children.
“When they are working a case, they rely on the cooperation of other law enforcement agencies as well, that’s how law enforcement works — information sharing, intelligence sharing, and the sharing and pooling of resources,” Albence’s statement to Fox continued.
He reportedly added that Puente isn’t the first illegal alien to evade justice in Chicago and likely won’t be the last.
“We have seen time and time again, unfortunately, way too many tragic circumstances like this poor 3-year-old kid who is going to suffer trauma for the rest of her life as a result of Chicago not turning this criminal over to us when we asked for him last year,” he said.
Every sanctuary city suffers from such tragedies, including New York City. Two months ago ICE published a list of illegal alien fugitives who’d escaped justice because of the city’s policies, including a Colombian national who’d been released by local authorities after sexually assaulting a minor two summers ago.
Luckily for any other potential future victims, ICE officials were eventually able to track down and arrest this illegal abuser on their own before he was able to do any further harm:

But cases don’t always wind up with a “happy” ending like this. There was no “happy” ending for Juan Carlos Con Guzman, a 16-year-old boy from Washington state who was beaten and hacked to death by two illegal aliens whose detainer requests had also been ignored by authorities.
Concluding his statement to FNC, Albence reiterated that so long as Democrat politicians like Lightfoot keep maintaining sanctuary city policies, they cannot deny that “the safety of their constituents” doesn’t matter to them.
“When they make policies that prevent ICE from doing its job, they have gotten involved in immigration law enforcement, they’ve gotten involved in impeding immigration law enforcement,” he said. “They’ve made a determination that their political aspirations are more important than the safety of their constituents.”
He’s not alone in his anger.
#Chicago, please ask yourself if remaining a #SanctuaryCity is worth it? @chicagosmayor Lightfoot is proudly protecting an illegal immigrant who’s alleged to have SEXUALLY ASSAULTED a 3 year old. I guess protecting pedophiles is a progressive value.#Twillpic.twitter.com/mY7p4O1xlI

Not sure how you sleep at night knowing your policies enabled an illegal alien to rape a 3 year old girl. She will be forever tormented by this evil act. But hey you’ll get the votes! Disgusting https://t.co/Lhdwbq2MQC @chicagosmayor @LightfootForChi @chicagotribune @John_Kass

Speaking of public health…your sanctuary status released an illegal felon that went on to sexually assault a 3 year old. You are such a POS by going out of your way to not work with ICE.

You blame ICE for that sexual attack on that 3 year old … your policies let that POS free !! You are totally to blame … shame on you
