‘Does he have no shame?’ Joe Biden camp wastes no time fundraising off coronavirus crisis

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is using the coronavirus crisis to fundraise for his campaign.

The former vice president apparently sent out an email Thursday warning Americans about the coronavirus illness while urging them to give donations to his presidential campaign.

Former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove was nearly at a loss for words over the email which he shared with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday.

“This is unbelievable what Joe Biden did. Here’s the front page of the e-mailer, sent out about 7:40 p.m. tonight,” Rove said on “Hannity” as he began to read from a printout of the message sent by the Democratic frontrunner.

“‘Here’s a speech I gave this afternoon. This is a long email, but I hope you read it all the way through and forward it to family and friends’,” the email read.

“The final page has a ‘Donate to Joe Biden’ button on it,” Rove continued. “He’s raising money off of it.”

“Here’s what it says at the end: ‘This is not the time to be complacent — If you are ready to fight for the soul of the nation, you can start by donating to elect Joe Biden by clicking the button below, donate to Joe Biden,'” Rove said, reading from a whiteboard.

“The man is raising money off of the coronavirus challenge facing our country,” Rove exclaimed.

“Does he have no shame?” he asked. “Is there no decency that says, you know what? There are some moments when we shouldn’t be taking things and use them for crass political purposes. He’s using it for prospecting!”

Biden’s email followed an attack on President Trump following his address to the nation on the administration’s efforts against the spread of COVID-19.

Biden offered his rebuttal of Trump’s remarks in a press conference of his own on Thursday, accusing the president of “xenophobia” over his use of the term “foreign virus” and slamming the travel bans issued to stem the spread of the disease. His speech prompted a scathing rebuke from the Trump campaign.

Rove noted that Biden was “not the only Democrat” seeking to capitalize on the pandemic and criticize the president’s handling of the crisis. He shared that 30 minutes after Biden’s email, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee sent one saying: “Breaking – Senate GOP blocks emergency paid sick leave bill from moving forward.”

The Senate Democrats’ fundraising arm accused Republicans of stalling the proposed legislation that would provide emergency paid sick leave related to the virus outbreak.

While President Trump had promised to sign any stimulus bill that Congress approved, Republicans and the White House openly opposed the House proposal and called for more time to address questionable issues. Reports later revealed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had attempted to get “several” provisions added to the emergency coronavirus bill, including a push for abortion funding.

Rove noted how the text of the bill had barely reached Senate Republicans before Democrats were asking supporters about the supposed delay in their response and trying to solicit donations.

“It just arrived this afternoon!” Rove exclaimed.

“They are sending out a prospecting piece asking people to let them know how they feel about it and to support Democrats for the United States Senate,” Rove said.

“Have these people no sense of decency? Can we not step away from this for just a minute and not politicize everything that comes down the line, or is everything going to be now used for fund-raising?” he asked, clearly frustrated.

“Is this really where we’ve come as a country?” Rove wondered.
